"you're damned if you do, damned if you don't"
"6 and half a dozen"
"sods law"
The common cold cannot and will not be beaten, so why do we try?
So all the kids had been sent home, as had Scott. The rest of us taught at East Campus and Shazitang without to much sickness in the classroom and with no major disasters. I did however teach my grade 5 class the lesson I had prepared for my grade 3s-what was even more embarrasing is that I didn't notice until I was walking into my supposedly grade 5 class and realised that they were much younger. My grade 5s still seemed to have fun, although the lesson was much to easy for them, and my grade 3s got the lesson they were meant to get thankfully as the other lesson would have been way over their tiny little heads.
So I got sick. I personally blame the cleaning of the acitivity rooms and offices on the Thursday-its not my style :p however when it came to friday morning I felt like i had a golf ball lodged in my throat and and no energy or enthusiasm. Managed through my first two lessons, and even taught the correct lesson for a change lol. But by the time the break came my head was pounding and I'd had enough.
My desire to just go back to bed and curl up and sleep it of was short lived though. I MUST see a doctor - "its a cold!!!" So across the street I went - something the British system should work on is that I was seen straight away, no waiting what so ever. Something I'm glad we don't have back home, is the smoking doctor sitting in the corner, and used needles sitting on the desk and the most disguisting pictures on the wall that would put anyone of ever having unprotected sex, made me feel sick, which was odd since i'm sure the doctor is meant to make you feel better.
So armed with medicine, which cost me a whopping £3, I went back to the school to wait for the others to finish teaching so I could go back home. They were so nice to me though, they let me sleep on the couch in the office, and brought me a duvet to keep me warm. They weren't so nice as they made me take the medicine that I had just got. The western medicine was great, no taste. The drink i was given was tolerable as it was sweet. The vile thing that was also drunk was the most disguisting vulgur thing that has ever come near my mouth. I had to take two, the first I tried to do in small sips so that I wouldn't taste it, this didn't work. The second in one gulp, that made me gag and throw it all back up in the bin. Being physically sick is less minging that this medicine, and apparently it isn't the worst one out there in China.
I can't convey how horrible this is, people won't and didn't believe me. Matt, Anna and Soren decided that since it was meant to help everything they would give it a shot. Its one of the things that you can take everyday to help your immune system, so of they went to buy it. Please remember that it is horrible, why would anyone knowingly part money to purchase it, even after I offered mine to them. Anyway, they took their shot and Anna and Matt think that it is tolerable, Soren LIKES it, what the? I blame the amount of spicy food that he eats, it has clearly burnt away any taste buds that he had.
Eventually i got back to bed, where i basically stayed for the next three days. No kindergarden for me. I'm damned if i take the medicine, as it makes me sick, i'm damned if i don't cause i'm sick, therefore its six and half a dozen. It's sods law that I would get sick at the weekend when we don't teach, or have to clean the office.
I'm not domesticated, should never have been allowed to clean, and whats the worst part of it all - I got a blister on my index finger :(
