so after arriving early we eventually made it to Xi'an and haggling over a 50yuan taxi we decided to walk to the hostel, only 5 mins, so glad we weren't ripped off. We opted for a quiet, easy day so drum and bell towers which were really close to our hostel and booked ourselves on the the terracotta warriors tour for the next day. This was obviously the highlight of our trip in Xi'an however was a bit of a let down. There didn't seem to be as many as I thought there would be however was still great to see, but awful to think that over 7,000 men were killed after making the pits and that figure may still rise.
Socialised with people in the hostel, which led to a long lie in, and not making it to Hua Shan mountain the next day like planned. Instead a VERY cold cycle round the city walls. We very luckily managed to get on the wall for free as the ticket women was asleep.
Then of the the Great Mosque, which is in the Muslim Quater (my favourite section in Xi'an) - the mosque just looked like another temple i'd seen in China though, blue/red/gold. Finish the day with the light and water show at the Great Goose Pagoda - which was free so even better lol.
Hua Shan - got up extremely early, got bus and then . . . CHINA HAPPENED!!! bus didn't leave for 3 hours, and no other bus was going as it was to cold. Eventually we made it!!! 6 hours after leaving hostel, and then . . . we didn't even get dropped off at the popular bit, we made the most of it and it was definitely worth the hassle. Concerened about time we didn't go to far up, which was lucky as it started to snow and made it a fun/slidy journey to the bottom. 5 HOURS!!! our bus took just as long on the way back as we got stuck in the snow.
Long lie after very tiring day the previous one. 11th of Feb - Matt's bday the next day but all were traveling our seperate ways so got very drunk to celebrate on an extremely cheap bottle of whisky that I regretted imensly when I was boarding my 1010am plane to Shanghai on my own :( but to met Meredith :)
