Happy Birthday China!!!! It's been 60 years since the peoples republic of china was founded. Soren and I decided since we had a free day we would go up Mountain Yuelu, which is on the other side of the water. Over hour on the bus to get there, and getting of at the wrong stop we finnaly made it. After seeing a map only then did we discover how much there was to see up the there, and also how far we might have to walk.
Lazy Europeans - we took the cable car up the mountain, we weren't the only ones - since it was the hottest part of the day and all up hill, I feel that it was justified. Once up there we took the scenic route back down stopping at some things on the way. There were many tombs up there, and also some temples. Not all of which were that impressive. We also went on a wild goose chase looking for the "over-flying stone" and also the "bell unknown." The most exciting thing tho was the "hippo lake" Soren was dead excited about this and so we treked down the steep path to it. The lake was beautiful, there is no denying that, but it was "shipo lake" and he had just read it wrong - no hippos so slightly disappointed
The main reason I wanted to go to the island was for Yuelu Acedemy, which is where Mao studied, you can take a tour and see where he was taught. This turns out to be need to the south entrance, where we ended our excursion - to tired to actually go in, no where it is tho so maybe next time.
Ate dinner at a Chinese Western Restaurant near Waulking Street, then tried to get a bus home. The place was mobbed tho and the usual bus back was driving with the doors still open. Decided to get quieter bus, but then have to change to another one, longer journey but could breathe.
Something that I haven't mentioned before but has been a key feature in our trip is "Chinglish" - Chinese English. These are great signs, with either spelling mistakes or weird sentences, started up a photo album for them, let you all have a taste of the experience.
Heading to Hong Kong 2mo, can't wait
