Rested the whole of Saturday, only went out for dinner and then to market for a beer with the boys. At the market we organised for them to cook us snake for the next night, meant to be mega spicy.
Sunday, Matt, Scott and I planned to go to the Changsha musuem, set of about 11.30 and got bus to Waulking Street, where we had lunch in a small eatery thing on the side of the road.
In typical Chinese style, we arrived at the musuem at 14.30, not exactly late however they had already sold their quota of tickets for the day and would not allow anyone else in - wot? Yeah so we had gone all that way for basically nothing. We had noticed a park next to the musuem so decided since we where here we'd check it out.
Turned out to be an amuesment park, free entry and u only pay for the rides that you go on. We went on an epic monorail journey, which would not have passed safety checks in the west. It wasn't meant to be scary, however everytime the carriage went over a join in the track, it shuddered tremendously, all part of the experience right? I survived though so don't you all go worrying about me.
The boys then went on a speed boat, which was only 20yuan each - stayed on the shore taking pictures instead. This lake/loch wasn't like Loch Lomond, no speed restictions so the boys where holding on for dear life at one stage.
Took a walk round the lake once the boys had recovered and ended up coming out at a different gate to the park. Matt knew where he was going tho, and directed us back towards the waulking street so we could get a bus home. After walking for over 40 minutes we saw a street sign. Matt had us walking in the complete opposite direction of where we wanted to go. Oh well, jumped in a taxi and got it to take us back to our apartment instead. Matt paid for the taxi which was even better, cause he felt so guilty. Not that I think he was entirely to blame, I was just a sheep, could have had an opinion.
Dinner at the school, can't pass up free food :) and then to the night market few hours later for the destruction of God's creatures. We saw every stage of the cooking of the snake, from holding it, to it being stuned - slapped hard against the ground. Also the head got cut of with a pair of scissors, and just like mary queen of scot, the snakes mouth kept moving for minutes afterwards. We saw it get skinned and boiled and then presented to us for us to gorge on. Tastes like a mixture between chicken and fish, but without so many bones. Was . . . really nice, except the spicy sauce that it was in. Wasn't soooo spicy that I could eat it, just spicey enough for me not to want to eat any more. The boys ate the entire bowl, us girls only had one bit each, 120yuan for the meal, only paid 10 tho - cheap experience. The boys then even drank the sauce for an added kick. Table of Chinese people next to us were eating pigs nose, which I got to try - chewy.
New week begins 2morrow, teaching body parts to my grade 2 classes, so have been drawing, or attempting to draw things that hopefully resemble parts of the anatomy. If not, realia is always an option.
