Ile de Cite and Ile de St. Louis are two islands in the Seine River that are so close to each other that they are connected by the short Pont St. Louis bridge. The closer one to our apartment is Ile St. Louis, and we have walked over there several times. You can see part of it in the accompanying photo with Renee in the foreground. Yesterday we walked the length of Ile St. Louis to the very end and crossed the Pont St. Louis to the larger Ile de Cite, the Island on which The famous Notre Dame Cathedral is located. There, we also visited The Memorial to the Martyrs of the World War II Deportation, which is just behind Notre Dame.
As we crossed the Pont St. Louis, we saw some interesting street artists whose photos you can see by clicking on "Photos". We took a short video of the great violinist, and we'll post that soon. Also in "photos," you can see some pics of the narrow streets of Ile de St. Louis, The Notre Dame Cathedral, some shots of the Memorial to the Jews and others who were deported to concentration camps, and the Brasserie de L'ile St. Louis where we had drinks and chatted with a nice couple from Minnesota.
The two islands in The Seine were the very beginings of the City of Paris, and are quaint and quiet refuges from the noise, traffic and faster pace of the rest of the city.
Today is our last full day before we fly home early tomorrow morning. We expect to post our final blog after we get home. It has been a wonderful and memorable trip and vacation.
Adieu,
R&S
