Last night we had dinner at Bistrot Chez Janou. In The Marais District, it was a 10 minute walk from our apartment. It is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. There's music, it's kind of noisy, the tables are packed tight, and the menu was in French only. We started by raising a glass of pastis (anise-flavored liqueur, popular in France) because it is what Shirley and Michael used to enjoy when they were in Paris in the late 1960s. It's a clear liquid, but when you add water, it turns kind of milky/cloudy. Very good and very sweet.
Steve had steak with a delicious herb butter and roasted potatoes and Renee had grilled shrimp in herbs and rice with pesto. Both were very good, but the piece de resistance was the chocolate mousse which they serve in an enormous bowl. It's very rich with a dark chocolate flavor, and enough for 20 people-- we're not kidding! You can see pictures of the huge bowl of mousse and the pastis drinks by clicking on "Photos" at the top of the page.
Sitting next to us was a nice family from the UK who were also fascinated with our mousse and asked to take a picture of it. We needed a good walk back to the apartment and beyond after our great dinner at Chez Janou.
Au Revoir,
R&S

Andi If the bowl of chocolate mousse was too much for the two of you, you should have invited me to help eat it! I love reading your posts!
Renee We'd love to have shared it with you Andi.
