Today we went on a tour of Giverny and the home of Claude Monet. We started from the tour company which is right in the shadow of The Eiffel Tower, which is quite a bus ride from our apartment. Not that its very far, but with all the traffic, the ride took about an hour. Anyhow, before we got on the minibus for the trip to Giverny, we walked over to the base of The Eiffel Tower, and we snapped a few photos.
The Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 World's Fair. It is still the tallest structure in Paris at 1050 ft. At first, the locals protested because they anticipated an eyesore, but it was a big hit and has become a cultural icon and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. It is also the most-visited paid monument in all the world. A couple of pics of us with the tower in the background can be seen by clicking on "Photos".
We'll blog about our tour of beautiful Giverny tomorrow.
