What to do on Friday, Sept. 21, our last full day in Paris? There's a lot we've seen in our 3 weeks, and lots more we haven't seen. So, for the one remaining day, we decided on one of the favorite pastimes of both Parisians and tourists: peoplewatching. They do it in the parks, they do it from the sidewalk cafes, they do it on the streets, and they do it on Le Metro.
One of the great cafes, in a great location, is Cafe De Flore, and this is where we went for a long brunch and peoplewatching feast. Since it was threatening rain, we chose a seat just inside the open sliding glass doors facing Boulevard St-Germain. And there we sat for a couple of hours. We had omelets and hot chocolate, enjoyed some good conversation with two nice ladies from England, and watched all kinds of people walk by. Of course, just as we were watching them, they were probably watching us. It seems as though this pastime of peoplewatching is probably one the reasons that Parisians are so fashion-conscious; they know they are being watched and they wouldn't want to make anything but the very best impression.
After brunch, we walked around some of the narrow St-Germain streets that are lined with cute small shops and restaurants. When it started to rain, we took it as our cue to hop on a bus back to the apartment and start packing for our Saturday morning flight. As it turned out, our flights were on-time and smooth. We were even bumped-up to better and bigger seats with more leg room for the long 8 hours from London to Miami. What a pleasant and welcome surprise!
We had a wonderful 3 weeks in Paris. But, we were ready to come home, sleep in our own bed, visit with Jeffrey, watch our TV shows, and get back to our regular work and play routines. A few pics of our last-day outing can be seen by clicking on "Photos".
A Final Adieu,
Renee & Steve
