The rolling Devon hills became a distant memory as we left Moretonhampstead. We travelled on minor roads and cycle paths all day. Hard climb up over the Mendip hills then down towards Chew Valley Lake, a huge artificial lake which supplies drinking water to Bristol. After a brief stop we took a cycle path along the Avon Gorge with fantastic views of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Crossed several motorways (via footbridges(!)) Then on to Wales via a dramatic cycle across the Severn Bridge. The views were spectacular.
Passed several small villages in the beautiful Wye Valley including Tintern with 12C Tintern Abbey.
Felt very tired by the time we reached B & B so were delighted to be offered ice cream and a cup of tea on arrival!
People more normally dressed in Monmouth cf Glastonbury. No one goes barefoot here. Or wears a hessian cape...
