Lovely to see Janet, Peter and Matthew last night. They popped over from Boston Spa to Slaidburn for a pudding. Great to see you x
What a fantastic day! We left the idyllic location of Slaidburn early this morning. The village was slowly coming alive in the sunshine and getting ready for a steam engine rally.
There were only three roads out of Slaidburn so we took our chances and found that sat nav agreed, so no circular cycling today...
The climb out of Slaidburn was relentless as we made our way across the Forest of Bowland. Thereafter the cycling was fantastic- stunning views across moorland then down on to quiet country lanes. We passed through the beautiful villages of Wray and Hornby. Undulating quiet roads took us towards the Lake District.
As we continued pedalling the hills of the Lake District grew nearer and nearer. Before we knew it we were in Kendal. Sunshine continued as we travelled on to Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere. Great views of Thirlmere before traversing to Keswick on Derwent water. (See photos)
We are over half way now and will cross the Scottish border tomorrow.
Today 74 miles, loads of calories burned and eaten for that matter too.
