Bit of rain, not a single rubber glove and one bagpiper!
The previous night we had stayed the night in a B&B run by a very friendly lady who even ran us to the pub for supper. We set off early from Balloch at the southerly end of Loch Lomond. There was a good cycle path along the side of the loch (which is about 23 miles long). Then there was a bit of climbing to say the least and we ground our way up into the mountains. Although overcast, the views were spectacular. There were small patches of snow appearing on the mountains as we climbed higher.
Sampled Cullin Skink ( I thought a skink was a type of lizard with a blue tongue) at the only place for miles - the hotel at the Bridge of Orchy. Delicious. That really set us up for the afternoon cycle as by then the rain was steady and it was a bit windy...
Some miles further on we passed the Glencoe Mountain Resort- for skiing, snowboarding, hiking etc . Bleak.
A memorable moment this afternoon was when we came across a chap playing the bagpipes. He told me he plays them at that spot every day and has done so for many years (apart from last Christmas when he had a bad cold) .. so look out for him when you pass this way. He looks like he has a few years left in him to continue. After all those hills, the descent into Glencoe was very welcome.
Met with some midges so hiding inside. So glad we are not camping!
Disappointed not to come across any gloves although think I may have seen a small black mitten just near the Glencoe ski resort....

Sarah Dunn Well done! Not far now! Take the sections of Caledonian canal up the Great Glen. It's great - and much smoother than the NCN 74! The climb onto the military road is steep however if you are thinking of it.... But worth it for the remaining 20 miles though. We must have been in a daze as missed all thise gloves! Sarah
Dad Well done we're following you from the boat in Loch Duich and everyone sends best wishes love Dad
