Got up, feeling tired, but ready for a new day and for my boat trip! had found out the previous night that the weird guy from my dorm was on the same boat so felt really nervous, but i didn't have anything to do with him all day and haven't seen him since :-) Got picked up outside my hostel at 7 and got the bus to the Marina - hadn't thought to take a book or magazine and couldn't find any in the shops which sucked because the boat didn't leave until 8! So I just chilled out looking over the Marina. Got on the boat, it was lilac which seemed like the weirdest choice of colour for a boat! Didn't look quite right! Was a nice boat though, like the ones you go on on holiday. Two big nets at the back for sunbathing on, kitchen and seating area inside and seating areas around the sides. Sat down for the safety chat. Looking around, there were all sorts of people - old couples, familys, locals and tourists, couples, weird guy.... but not many young people! Hoped there would be! Defiantely didn't want to spend the day on my own, especially with weird guy there and no book or magazine! The only other people my age on the boat were 3 girls so I hoped they would be nice! Tried chatting to them after the safety brief, they seemed nice but it's hard to know of you're intruding or not when you're on your own! We went and sat outside and I had sat down before them and they sat somewhere else. i layed on the net and ended up falling asleep, which I needed! It was unfortunatly quite a cool day so on a boat I felt pretty chilly. We picked up about 15 more passangers from one of the islands. I went and sat insdie as I was cold and played a game on my phone. We then stopped at our snorkeling destination and had the safety chat. We got proper gear with wetsuits and flippers and stuff so that was cool! Sat back with the girls and they seemed way more friendly - maybe they had just been tired! Asked if i couldn't snorkle with them and chatted to them on the way out in the miny boat. They were all from California and studying in the gold coast. They would visit different places in Oz on there weekends and were here for a few nights. Steph and Sara were on their 3rd year of Uni and Meg was 19 like me and on her first. couldn't chat for long as we got into the sea but we snorkled around together - I felt fine again except I saw weird lights in my eyes when I was under water which I simetimes see before I pass out .... i really did feel ok, but I definately will give scuba diving a miss. You see so much snorkeling anyway! the guy in the little boat started throwing food right by us girls and the fish went crazy! Not seen anything like it, they were surrounding us! Was really cool though. We snorkled around, saw tons of fish, much better than when I had done it before but still not very clear! The girls went back on the first boat as they had snorkled in Cairns the day before, but I stayed in a little longer and watched the fish :-) got back on the boat and had morning tea and cake, delicious! Too delicious, ate way too much! Went and sat with the girls and we chatted for ages, they were really ncie, was so so glad they were on the boat or dont know who I would have talked to. told them about the weird guy and they said they thought he'd looked weird! Spoke to them about what they're studying and what California is like... they asked me about my trip and what I was doing at home. Got on with them really well! We arrived at Whithaven beach and I saw a totally different view of it. Before, we had gone round the back, climbed to the viewing platform the climbed down. This time, we sailed onto the main stretch of the beach. Was so different! Meant we didn't go to the view point which was a shame as the views were amazing, however I am actually glad we did this instead. You didn't get the good views but we got onto the beach which was beautiful, a thin stetch going on for 7 miles infront of the rainforest. took the little boat over and took some photos in our funky wetsuits! The sun was shining for us and the place was beautiful. We looked around then we played volleyball! I had never played before, but being California girls the girls had, a lot. They were pretty patient though and I actually picked it up pretty quickly and really enjoyed it!! Was so nice being on a beautiful beach with these awesome girls playing volleyball! We went for a swim in the sea then sat making sandcastles then buried Sara and made her into a mermaid. Washed ourselves off then got on the little boat back to the Camira where lunch was ready! There was a BBQ and loads of salads, sooo much to choose from! the chiken was delicious as was the potato salad. I had so much salad as well, its expensive here! There were some really cute kids on the boat running around and doing handstands etc, me and the girls talked about how much fun it was to be that age! I miss it so much!! Not that I could ever do a handstand though and I wasn't really ready to try after that big lunch! We all sat along the edge of the boat looking out and although it wasn't really sunny, it was clear and I got to see the islands! The guy was telling us about all the different islands and there was one that looked so much like a monkeys face! Saw hamilton Island, a posh island for rich people! there were a few famous people with appartments there including Sylvester Stalone. Was really good to see the islands after it had been so cloudy last time and was lovely to sit on the edge of the boat chatting to the girls. spoke to them for ages about my stops on the East Coast as they were trying to plan a road trip from Surfers to Fraser. Sold them Agnes Waters with my story of hitting the tree - looking back, it really was so funny! We all couldn;t stop laughing! So that was good to be able to help them. They want me to fly to Surfers and do it with them - looked into to flights to Surfers as i would love to do that, and I could stay with them in their appartment. Tempting but its more money I don't have! We ate more cake, probably didn't need to! Was delicious though and we cruised back to the marina. Left the girls, arranging to meet them later. Got the bus back to Airlie, and wanted to pop quickly into Travel Bugs to book another nights accom. Thoguht it would only be quick but it was packed in there! Had to wait ages to speak to Tom and wasn't long before it was gone half 6 - was meeting the girls at half 7! Decided I had to get a move on so headed back to the room, but it was packed! Another group of people who had just got off a boat, all wanting showers! Got speaking to one really nice girl but the rest were all a bit crazy and had really spread their stuff out! The sinks were full of make up and they were proper Barbie Dolls so I had to wait a while for the bathroom. Washed my hair and realized I didn't have my hairdryer - had not picked it up when I swapped rooms the night before! Went back to my old room and knocked on the door and the Clipper crew was in there sat around. I knew exactly where I had left it - by one of the beds - and asked if anyone had seen it. They said they hadnt and when I said where it was they said they definately hadn't. So went back to my room, had a proper search, then decided to go back and check myself - something didn't feel right. I went back in and said I was just going to check by where I had left it, and it was right there under the lid of the girls bag! I looked at her and could tell she had known it was there. Glad i went back to check! Girls seem worse than boys and nicking stuff! Anyway, had to quickly dry my hair and put it up - no time to straighten it! had rang the girls to sya I'd be late but managed to get down at 7.45 so wasn't too bad. it was pretty lively in their and the girls had just got their free pizza - I had to wait till the next delivery but we sat in their chatting which was so lovely, knew I would miss these girls when they left! Got my pizza which was delicious then we headed to Beaches. Stopped at McDonalds on the way for a 50c cone but their ice cream machine was broken! We had waited all day for one so werent happy, haha! Said we'd be back later and expected it fixed :-p i popped back to my room to sort out my hair as it felt horrible then we sat in Beaches and had a few drinks. The music guy I had sung with was back! He was really good - there was a bizarre moment when one of the American barbie girls from my room ran up on stage, grabbed the mic, told the guy to start playing something and she started singing - everyone kind of stopped, it was very strange. No one knew what she was singing and she was stood really far from the mic. A few of her friends were stood at the front cheering while she sung what we think was a ballad. She sung for ages then rolled her eyes at the guy (later she was saying how he was rubbish at guitar and messed everything up) and stormed of stage. Was the strangest thing ever! But anyway, the guy carried on playing and then said he was going on a 10 min break. I went over to say hi and thank him, telling him how it had got me a boat trip. He seemed a bit weird when I spoke to him but said I could go back and sing later if I wanted. Would have liked to but after the strange girl I wasnt sure. My vioce was totally going too so when I was singing to myself I realized there was no way I could. Anyway, I popped to the cashpoint and saw him outsdie smoking then went back and sat with the girls. We were looking forward to him coming back on stage but 10 mins turned to 30, then an hour...... was really weird....... then he just went onstage and packed up and left without saying anything. he had defiantely said he'd be back in 10! Was a shame as the live music had been good! When we left we asked the bouncers where he'd gone and he said that he finished at 11. He hadnt played since 10 though! Bizzare. We went back to McDonalds which was busy, no ice cream though! Sat in their chatting though and met some other people, one guy from Bournemouth! So chatted to him for a bit. Me and the girls then went back to their hostel, Waterfront, which was really nice! Sat in their kitchen for ages chatting then they said I might aswell stay over - it was a fair walk back to my hostel and it was late so it made sense. Their dorm was bizarre - the longest narrowist room, like a corridoor, with 9 beds on each side top to tail. I got in a spare bed though and it was so, so comfortable. Got an amazing nights sleep :-)
