Lucy's Kiwi and Oz Experience
Got up early and checked out then got on the Oz experience bus ready to leave at 7. The bath boys were on the same bus which was cool, as was ross who i keep bumping into! It was one of the little bumpy buses but I still managed to get some sleep on the way to Rockhampton. We got stuck in some traffic as there was abig road accident but we got to Rockhampton at 10. Had half an hour to get some food and drink etc. Some people were coming to the Kroombit Cattle Station but others were heading straight on to Airlie beach. We met with the bus that had just got back from the Cattle Station and sorted out our bags and stuff. The bath boys were meant to be staying in Rockhampton for the night but couldn't get in anywhere so Sonic (our bus driver) said they could come along to the cattle station so that was really cool! Alex had got the bus back from the cattle station to Rockhampton then old she couldnt get on the bus so she was also coming back to the cattle station - sucks for her as she had just done the jouirney away from the place! Sarah and Laura had decided to stay there an extra night so would be there when we got there. Ross was coming to the cattle station too so I woudlnt be on my own! Good because i woudlnt be loney but I also wanted to meet new people!! Still need to find someone like Lauren that I properly click with again! The journey to Kroombi was 2 hours - I had no idea it would be so long! It was a cool drive though, loved leaving the East Coast and enterring the outback, got to see a whole different side of Oz.... going to the cattle station is probably one of the bestd ecisions I have made on the trip. We arrived at the cattle station and it was awesome, like Spot X in the sense it was chilled out and felt genuine. There was a big eating area, the dorms were in little sheds, there was a bar, everyone was in cowboy hats.... was awesome! There were optional extras for the afternoon and one of them was to do a horse ride... I had never been on a horse before and if I am honest, had always been norvous at thre thought of it. but, after feeling sooo good after Scooter-roo yesterday I thought i would go for it. Sonic had said it was a really good palce to do it and that they have loads of begginers. There was a purpose to it too, to round up all the goats from the field. Got our gear on (time to get out my cow print PJs!) then waited as we got assigned to hroses. There were about 50 of us doing to the horse ride, loads of people on my bus! Got chatting to some girls from England while i waited sp that was cool. I was the second to last person to get on my horse, the wait was making me a bit nervous but all my nerves dissapeared as soon as i got on it. My horse, Buttons, was gorgeous, and I found it really easy to control him and was relaxed straight away. We all rode into the field and it was so nice, I was so pleased I had done it and wondered why I had been nervous! Unlike Scooter-roo you could chat to others whilst going along so as we went around I chatted to loads of different people. We were free to ride where we wanted as long as we got all the goats in the pen! Took a while to round them all up, there were loads!! I couldn't stop talking to Buttons, can see why girls love their horses!! Felt really proud when Buttons was the horse to get the first goat into the pen! Once they were all in we rode back and had to said goodbye! No time to hang around though as it was time to go to the rodeo! We went back to the pen where we had heared the goats and Jonathan, one of the vcowboys, showed us how to throw a lassoo. That was good fun but hard to get the hang off. People could also pay to do some shooting, shooting discs out fo the sky. That was cool to watch and I'd have liked to have a go but had done it before so gave it a miss. So we hung out lassooing and shooting then it was the rodeo game. We had to get into groups of 3 - i was with 2 guys, an English guy Alex(who is going to Bournemouth uni in September!) and Italian guy Antonio - and the aim was to be the quickest to grab a goat. "brand it" then release it. It was really funny watching people trying to grab a goat whilst someone else straddled it, but we were awesome and got a goat straight away.... Alex couldnt find the poker stick for ages though so we lost the title we would have definately won!! Was good fun though :-p Once everyone had had a go, Johnothan had fun shocking peple with the tazer thingy and we did a few games with that, then we went back to the camp for the mystery dish. every night they cook something from the station and you have to guess what meat it. I was unusually brave and un fussy and tried it and it was delicious! Turns out it was goat which is the most widely eaten meat in the world apprently! After that we had dinner, a roast!! Followed by chocolate pudding and custard, perfect! We then went and sat with Alan, the main cowboy, who told us all about the cattle station, its history, the different jobs etc, then he showed us all how to crack a whip. he was really good at it, it was harder than it looked! I managed to suss it out though in the end. We then moved on to the mechanical bull where we had to see who could stay on for the longest - prizes for the winners! It was a pretty lively one!! I managed to come 3rd out fo the girls though which was fine by me! Was hillarious to watch though :-p After everyone had been on that, most people went to bed which was a shame. Felt like we should all stay up chatting! So it was only about 15 of us left, we played a few games though, including bite the box and Kroombit olympics which was good fun :-p Then they closed everything down and me, Sarah, Laura, Alex, Alex, Antonio and the bath boys all stayed up. Tried playing some drinking games but we didnt have a lot of drink and everyone was getting to worked up abut rules and stuff! Was a bit annoying. I went to get my pjs on as i was freezing and when i went in my room one of the girls was going crazy about how i had to shut the door immediately as a frog had jumped in! The it was pitch black and i didnt have a torch so it was all a bit mad haha. Went back and laid loking at the stars which was lovely but not really relaxing... lots of loud giggly chat like i was back at school! Laura hooked up with Chris which I wasn't expecting! And so did Sarah and Antonio. So yeah, quite funny. Headed to bed when it got really cold and we found ourselves surrounded by goats! I ended up staying in a Laura, Sarah and Alex's room as they had spare beds and it was really lovely and warm, saved me finding my way around my room in the dark too! Had had such a good day, the evening wasn't exacltly what I'd have liked as I wanted to chat to new people and would have been nice if everyone was together, but nthings perfect! Was so nice to be in the outback though and seeing a proper bit of Oz :-) Could have definately stayed there for longer!
