Sunday 25th February
Hi people, how you all doing? Have now managed to speak to most of you which was cool, was feeling like i hadnt spoke to you for ages. My week started by doing a late shift on Monday, the only good thing about the 1315 start is the lie in but it doesnt give you enough time to do anyting in the morning. Tuesday did an early shift then that night the QE2 and QM2 where coming to the harbour so went down for that. The QE2 comes every year but it was the first time the new QM2 had. We tried to make the 1900 meeting of the ships when the QE2 was to pass the QM2 on its way into the harbour but we just missed it, although you could hear the ships letting off their horns. The QM2 was at Woolomooloo next to the botanical gardens as it was too big to go into the harbour, it was bloody huge. We then walked round to the opera house to wait for the fireworks, it would have been a better view of them at the gardens but wanted to watch them in the harbour. The QE2 was just oppisite the opera house and looked tiny in comparisson. We stood on the opera house steps to watch the fireworks which were really cool, since was a bit drunk for the new years ones, it was good to see these ones. So that was that, probably doesnt sound very exciting but Sydney harbour at night is so cool and the atmosphere was good with loads of people there to watch. When we were at home could hear the QM2 letting off its horn whilst making its midnight departure from the harbour. We got a free bus home, they do this after all the big events which is good, couldnt see this happening at home. Wednesday did another early but it was fine although was tired. Thursday i had day off, made my first trip to the beach on my own, went to Coogee, the beach there is really nice. Was only there 90 mins when the sun went in and thick grey clouds came out, thats what i get for getting there late! Friday was off again and Paul was too busy to get the day off so went to Coogee again, this time had a good couple of hours sunbathing, didnt go in the sea though because there was an increased number of bluebottles (kind of jelly fish with long blue tentacles). Friday night we walked to The Spot which is an area in Randwick, just oppisite the hospital with loads of restaurants and bars and a cinema. Most of the rstaurants are thai/chinese/sushi so not good for me but went to a nice italian seafood restaurant. We walked there from home so is nice and close. We then went to the cinema, its called The Ritz and is a restored 1930's art deco cinema which is also really cheap. Watched the new Hugh Grant film 'Music and lyrics', it was alright but a little strange, chairs were more comfy than Bluewater though. Saturday and Sunday i was doing lates but the good thing is weekend shifts are at more normal times and start at 1415. Thought i should make the most out of the mornings so sat went to Paddington market, its quite a posh area and so was quite a posh market, although did have nice stuff but not at bargain prices, just got a top. We then went to Darling harbour for lunch, such a nice place, actually a big section of it was designed by the same architect that designed Bluewater, weird ay! They were having a dragon long tail boat race as part of chinese new year celebrations so we watched that in the sun eating our baramundi (oz fish) and chips in the sun. Paul then went to Stuarts for the afternoon and i got a taxi back to go to work. When got home was confronted by a huge red cockroache in a carrier with my stephoscope, it was disgusting, nearly the length of my palm and do not know how it got there, shook it out the window. While i was at work Paul was at Stuarts eating pizza, John lent him the yut so he brought that home and picked me up. Sunday morning it was raining, we went to Bondi as there is usually a sunday market, couldnt fnd it though, maybe it was rained off. We just had a look in some shops and had lunch looking out to the beach which was nice despite the gray skies. Paul spent his afternoon going to the laundrette and supermarket, good boy! He has joined blockbusters and went and got himself a DVD, hes easily pleased! So that was the end of our week, planning to go to Adelaide on the 15th March to stay with Julie for the weekend so that will be cool and then have got the last week in march off so want to go to Melbourne so that will be cool. I have also now got the internet, just dial up but it is quite quick, very exciting so will be easier than going to internet cafe! Thats all for now, love and miss you loads Laura and Paulxxxxxxxxxxxxx
