Dave offered to take me, Alice, Bex, Amanda, Billy (new night porter), and the French receptionists (Gaelle and Vanessa) out for a meal to show his appreciation for the work we had done for him, which I thought was a very nice gesture, especially for stingy Dave. We had to keep it quiet from Guy though, as Dave knew he kept going out on nights when he was supposed to be night porter. Alice was working and Bex wanted to go see Barry to watch the State of Origin game with him (first of three rugby matches between the Queensland and New South Wales teams), but the rest of us went to the Ibiza Beach Bar on the esplanade. After so many months of offering customers at work bruschetta and garlic bread it was nice to actually be able to have some! I had a chicken and cranberry and something else pizza for a main, and the girls had chicken parmigiana, Dave had a stuffed chicken breast and Billy had a chicken schnitzel. Dave also brought us cocktails/ beers (I had a cosmopolitan and an Eskimo kiss). I was only joking when I said "what about pudding", but then because Gaelle wanted a chocolate brownie, I couldn't refuse, although it wasn't very nice- it tasted quite salty!
Afterwards, I went to meet Brenton, Bella, Donna and Dane at the Courthouse to watch the state of Origin game. It was on at the restaurant, and it was a bit strange because I had assumed everyone would be supporting QLD but Dave and the restaurant owner was supporting NSW, and when I went to Hogs Breath to find everyone, Emilie was wearing a NSW scarf. There were a few more QLD supporters at the courthouse though, and it was a really good atmosphere as there was an enormous crowd of people standing outside watching the outdoors television screen. The night was a bit ruined by the fact I had a really bad stomach ache which I had assumed was due to me eating too much, but I later found out that a couple of people who went for the meal had had food poisoning.
