Today's wander around town got me a few trials- I had a trial shift at the restaurant next to the Pier bar this evening, starting at 6, and a trial on Saturday in an Indian restaurant (I think the fact that I had been to India and was familiar with what a Thali was helped). This was the good news of today.
I got the local bus back to the hostel, and left my purse on it. This was the bad news of today.
To do my trial shift, I had to get Alice to do my cleaning for me, which thankfully isn't too different to the cleaning she has to do in the private rooms for her housekeeping.
When I arrived at the restaurant, I said to the waitress that I was here for my trial, and neither she nor the other staff had heard that I was doing one, and so they asked if I meant Bella Vista (which is next door). I wasn't completely sure I had got it right to be honest, as it's quite hard to keep on top of where you have handed in your CV, and when I looked back to take a note of the restaurant name, I had looked at Bella Vista, so it didn't look too good a reflection on me that I had a look to see if that's where I was meant to be, but I didn't recognise the layout, and so came back. I just hoped that they thought I was doubtful because they didn't know anything about it, although the waitress asked me why I didn't know. Luckily (or unluckily perhaps as if he was there at the start, I wouldn't have doubted myself) this all went on before the Manager got back.
I don't think I did a very good job; I put it down to the fact I don't eat beef, but I had forgotten to ask a couple how they wanted their steaks done, and didn't give them a steak knife to eat it with. I also didn't do things that would probably be second nature to a waitress, like bring the cutlery basket to a table after they had ordered. Me and the Manager got on quite well though, and he said that he'd ring his friends who also own restaurants and clubs, to see if they wanted me as a front of house girl, i.e. bringing in customers from outside. It wasn't very busy in Sauce (the actual name of it) so I don't think he really needs any more staff.
I got a phone call after, asking me to do another trial shift on Saturday morning- I mistook the café name 'Driftin' for 'Tristan" -the name of the person I thought I was talking to. Luckily they gave me directions of how to get there, so I didn't have to guess as to what to Google search the directions for!
