Jonathon (the Melbournian at the hostel who I went to the shops with the other day) seems to have been annoying people all of this morning- when I was washing up he was trying to get in the way and tell me how to do it, so I snapped at him a bit, and then him and Alex (a Finnish guy who's the new entertainment guy) were arguing about something (apparently Jonathon feels like Alex deliberately asked to be the entertainment guy because he knew Jonathon wanted to ask for it) and then when I came outside, Jake (a chef) said he was trying to stay as far` away as possible as he'd spent the whole morning with him and couldn't take anymore. When me and Jonathon were snapping at each other, Jake was there and I can't even remember what he said, but then Jonathon came up with a really weird comment about whether me and Jake were related now. Bex said that Joe, Seb and Alex had asked Dave whether he could be chucked out because of how argumentative he gets when he's drunk.
Me, Stacey and Alice spent the day at the lagoon as it was the first day in ages that it's been sunny. I brought a hot fudge waffle cone from McDonalds, and on the way back to our hostel, we all brought our second ice cream of the day, and I had a banana lolly dipped in chocolate and peanuts. It tasted like it was just pure frozen banana so was kind of healthy! Alice had a kiwi one and Stacey had a biscotti ice cream.
Allen has season tickets to Taipans basketball games, and Josh had asked me if I wanted to go a game today, but then rang me to say Allen's son's friend got my ticket, so I was really disappointed as I was really looking forward to the new experience. It was all good again though when Allen rang me to say Fernando's (head chef) girlfriend was ill and so I could have her ticket. He told me to meet at work and we'd have a few drinks and then walk down for the 7.30 start. However he wasn't there when I got there, and so if Emilie hadn't have been there too, I wouldn't have known where the hell I was supposed to be going! It was a really exciting game and the mascot (who was supposed to be a snake, although it's quite hard to look like a snake when you have legs) was very entertaining. First he threw out jelly snakes, and then he spun a hypnotic disk when the other team (Adelaide 36ers) threw a penalty, then dressed as an old lady with saggy boobs and then blew out rolls of toilet paper. The atmosphere was really good - Cairns post (the local newspaper) had given out cardboard strips that you fold concertina style and whack against your hand to make a clapping sound, and the guy with the microphone kept clapping and shouting "de-fense", and "let's go Taipans, let's go!". There were cheerleaders, and some of the little girls were really cute. You could order food and it would be delivered to you whilst watching the game so you didn't miss anything (although it was easy to get distracted with all that was going on). I know some basketball players were really tall, but it's really impressive when you see someone jump up and thwack the ball out of the way of the goal.
