I was kind of dreading today, as the stage makeup was going to be unbearable, over the top and down-right embarrasing. Still, I thought I'd just sit throught it and endure whatever the 2 hour long application would be. I'd be told by Alex the previous day, that I'd be some kind of fairy, though I've been feeling like some kind of 'fairy' for the past 2 weeks.
The morning's demonstration was by Mereille on Jodi, who was in full stage garb throught the application. there's photos in the album. We were also given a tutorial on how to hide eyebrows for stage makeup, so there's a 'clean' canvas to work with. This came in handy for when U applied the makeup to Alex. I'd quickly sketched something last night in about half hour so I had some idea of how it would look. I'd chosen to base my makeup design on the style of a Balinese dancer; I typed 'Balinese dancer makeup' into Google and used the first picture I found as a reference.
It was my turn in the chair first. I always seem to be first. Everyone else always sets up during lunch before I've even thought about going for my first lunchbreak cigarette. I managed to keep track of the current Champions League scores, though this would not end with me looking any more masculine by the end of the application.
Alex's design was loosely based around some kind of forest fairy/pixie type thing, covered in fake leaves, gold doilies, plenty of foundation, and f***-tons of glitter. I hate glitter. It's like an STD; once you get it, it take forerver for it to go away... so i've been told. I'm clean.
Thankfully, Mireille could see the agony I was in and, being the nice tutor she is, suggested to the director the school, Lee, that I should be on the front desk to welcome in all the prospective students that were coming to view the school today... I don't think she does like me.
Nothing much to say with regards to my attempt really. I managed to do an OK job, and got it done in pretty good time. Again, there's photos in the album.
The sculpt is still going well, though it almost certainly won't be finished by the last night's session on Friday. Just a lot of smoothing off of the surface and adding more texture.
Thanks to George, another sculpting student, I managed to grab a lift home, and got back with enough time for some food and to do my homework for tomorrow. I have to design a makeup look based upon a companies Fall/Winter 2012 line. Again, Google images to the rescue...
