I swear Italy is getting hotter by the hour. It's getting to the point where I can take an ice cold shower, and the second I step out and dry off, I begin dripping sweat again - this is crazy. I thought I would have adjusted to not having AC by now but I was definitely wrong. Also, that huge outdoor staircase I mentioned before that we have to walk up every day to get to school? Well Laurel counted the steps today: 123. 123 steps outside in the blazing heat in the middle of the day. It's brutal.
Regardless of this heat though I had a wonderful day today. I woke up early to go meet Dana at the coliseum. I went alone but it's a simple tram ride away. We had to wait in a super huge line for tickets so it was a good thing we got there early! We managed to get through the coliseum in about an hour (we didn't do a tour or anything, one isn't really needed) and then headed over to Palatine Hill because the tickets we had got us into both. We didn't have time to do both the Palatine and the Forum, but I showed them the Palatine, got a picture in front of another bath for my project (Septimius Severus this time), and then when I needed to head to school for class was the time they needed to start heading to the Airport to go back to Salamanca. I had a little extra time to kill before class so I went shopping and got the majority of my presents for people back home out of the way, then grabbed a quick sandwich for lunch and walked to school. Class was the same-ole thing as usual. We thought we were supposed to be going on a walking tour of the synagogue after class so we were all dressed in appropriate garb (long skirt, shoulders covered) but turns out that isn't until Thursday. Woops! Works for me though, because since I left so early in the morning I forgot to pack my scarf to cover my shoulders. Today was our instructor Sherrie's last day, she has to go back to the US, so we had a going away party at a local gelaterria - the best I've had yet! I got three flavors: dark chocolate, banana, and tiramisu. Soooo yummy! We then headed home to drop off our bags and unwind from the day, then went back to that really cute restaurant across the street for dinner. We couldn't really adventure out and do anything special because Sara-Margaret and Jackie have an exam in Italian tomorrow. I ventured out and had a yummy garlic pasta with clams in it, and let me say it was delicious! For some reason I expected the clams to have already been taken out of the shells, but that was silly because not even shrimp have been shucked or peeled, why would clams be? They were there in my pasta, shells and all. It was an experience for sure, a yummy one!
We came home and just hung out because the girls had to study. Laurel and I tried to watch a movie but iTunes wasn't working so we just kind of hung out. Tomorrow is her birthday as well as another girl on our trip, so we will be having a big double-birthday, post-exam celebration tomorrow evening. It's bound to be tons of fun! A domani!
