Oh man was today an adventure!
Like I said classes were cancelled, and Laurel and I decided to wander around the city looking for baths to start our project for our Daily Life in Ancient Rome class. Let me tell you, this is not easy. We started with the two easiest ones to get our feet wet (Bath of Caracalla and Bath of Domitian, they are in museums) and we still couldn't do it. The instructions we found to get there were not real: the buses didn't exist, the stops were wrong, they took us the wrong way, etc. We ended up having to take taxis all over after getting lost and it took twice as long to do it. Luckily taxis aren't expensive here. We then expected that with our two free hours we had left before our class meeting at 4:!5 that we would have time to go to the zoo. Wrong. Of course again, we had bad instructions and ended up in the middle of no where at a random bus station. Conveniently, one of the bus drivers spoke english and gave us directions to get to Cinecitta for Cinema class. A 10 minute tram ride and 25 minute metro ride later, we made it. Other girls were lost though and we had to wait for them.
Cinecitta was awesome though! It's the set of so many movies and TV shows, for example all of Frederico Felinni's films, and the HBo-BBC show Rome. We also got to see costumes and props! It was great. Our teacher then led us all back on the metro to the Trevi Fountain which we visited because of the famous scene from La Dolce Vita, and he bought us all gelato. We headed home and had dinner at this small restaurant across the street. It was inexpensive and gave us the largest portions I've ever seen. Jackie's pizza was big enough for 2-3 people and my calzone was the size of my plate. It was so delicious.
We are off to Pompeii tomorrow morning at 6:30 AM and then are off to Ischia for the weekend, so we've got to get packing and to bed. Enjoy my pictures from our bath search and of Cinecitta. Buonnanote!
