We didn't have far to go today. We checked out a roadside stop beside a river (with running water for a change) but decided to head to Gnoorea and 40 Mile Beach, where you can camp for a small fee on the beach. We set up on the edge of a small cliff with sweeping views over a rocky headland and small beach. Today we met Dampier's favourite celebrity - Red Dog. Well, at least we saw the Red Dog statue at the entrance to the town of Dampier. We left the Port Hedland Sports Ground early this morning and headed to a picnic spot called Pretty Pool with a river running out to the beach, where we stopped for breakfast with a view. Next we headed to the port to watch the massive iron ore laden ships and their tugs and pilot boat head out to sea. They were quite a sight and very impressive.
