We decided last night that given today was going to be very windy and rainy that we would stay another night here, rather than pack up and drive with the caravan in such bad weather.
So this morning, despite the weather, we went to see Windy Harbour, about 30 minutes away. About five minutes after we set off torrential rain and winds hit and I had to pull over on the road as I couldn't see. I then continued cautiously and slowly as there were a lot of large tree branches strewn across the road from the high winds and in some places I had to cross to the other side of the road - lucky there weren't too many cars on the road.
We eventually got to Windy Harbour, where we had a look at the group settlement, a higgaldy piggaldy bunch of cottages and beach shacks built originally as a government scheme to bring families to the area to develop it. Today there is no town or shops but the local shire leases most of the cottages out as holiday homes for people wanting to escape for a few days.
We also drove to the nearby lookouts (and yes it was very windy!), the light house and Salmon Beach, where due to the high winds, we could barely get out of the car for a look.
We headed back to our campsite, stopping first in the town of Northcliffe to check out the history of the town in the Pioneer Museum (loved the old school room) and Gadi decided to do the garden sculpture walk while Cadbury and I went to the local cafe for lunch and a much needed cappuccino.
Back at the campsite we moved our caravan to a different site in order to allow our solar panels a chance to charge in some direct sunlight, as where we had been camping was under a canopy of trees.
Gadi spent some time checking out some safety aspects, including checking the weight of our tow ball and leveling the car and caravan.
Tonight we again cooked in the camp kitchen and chatted to our fellow travellers before heading back to our caravan. Tomorrow morning we will pack up and head towards Margaret River.
Sweet dreams xx
