We left the rest area early, just drinking a coffee before we left, heading to Kalbarri.
Our chosen place to stay for a few days is Murchison House Station, a 350,000 working goat, cattle, sheep and wheat station 10km out of Kalbarri on the Murchison River. We headed there first, set up camp along the river and headed into Kalbarri to get our bearings.
What a stunning town this is, perched at the mouth of the wide Murchison River, with stunning cliff tops, with jagged rock faces sweeping out to sea and on the doorstep of the beautiful national park, with its gorges, cliffs and canyons.
After checking out the gorgeous River mouth and watching the fishing boats navigate the treacherous entry thriugh the channel. We enjoyed a seafood lunch in one of the pubs courtyards facing the sea - with Cadbury tied up nearby and whining away, unused to not being able to sit close to us.
After lunch we drove south of town along the cliff tops of the national park where we got to see several spots where there are stunning views over the cliffs and sea.
We both really love the natural beauty of this place, which feels so different to anything we've seen in the last few weeks on our travels.
It's hard to explain, but while the north of WA has an unrivaled beauty of its own - its remoteness, the red Pilbara earth, the intense colour of the sun in the outback, the long stretches of isolated beach, the world heritage listed sites such as Ningaloo Reef and Shark Bay. But none of it is as stunning in terms of natural beauty, with its green rolling hills, dramatic cliff tops and clear waters. A different kind of beauty I guess, but very lovely in our opinion.
We got back to our little home on wheels on the station in time to cook dinner and chill out for the evening.
So, from us, it's good night, sleep well xx
