We spent the morning at the nearby Willie Creek Pearl Farm, driving ourselves and not doing one of the expensive tourist tours that can include boat and helicopter trips. The creek there is gorgeous with a long sand bar and the northern end of Cable Beach behind. Not a good place for swimming or kayaking as there is a local large croc that frequents this area.
We had a look in the shop and read the information boards about pearl harvesting before sitting down to enjoy an affogato in the shade. We then drove back to Broome, visited the pearl centre and spent some time at the visitor centre to get more information about heading south. We tied Cadbury up in the shade outside and were really annoyed to discover some local kids had untied him (probably thought it was a fun thing to do). Luckily he never goes far and tried to come inside the visitor centre.
Mid afternoon we went to see some of Broome's galleries and enjoyed both the stunning photography and interesting artwork of local artists in this area. We also walked into the famous Roey Pub and checked out the Sun Picture Theatre, with its open air screen and movie relics from the old days.
Finally, we drove to see one last sunset on Cable Beach, driving on to the sand with all of the other cars and sitting on our camp chairs to enjoy the magic pink and purple hues, turning gold and red when the sun disappeared.
Came back to our campsite and made pasta for dinner. How lovely to be able to have a shower and hop into bed clean.
Night night xx
