Played tourist today in Broome, visiting the Chinese and Japanese cemeteries with their exquisitely written headstones followed by a visit to the museum, which was fascinating with information about the Aboriginal history, the migrant experience (arriving post WW2), pearl industry and learning about what life was like living in Broome - a town literally at the end of the world. Quite a rough and ready town, it also had quite a strong social aspect reflected in the long standing Sun Picture Theatre, built in 1916 and the world's oldest operating picture garden.
We then relaxed a bit on Town Beach (as we had to see the museum separately because of Cadbury) and then drove along the Minyirr Peninsula, stopping to see gorgeous rock formations and eat a picnic lunch, and then continuing to the lovely Reddell Beach, where we walked over the red rocks, some covered in desert vines and bright pink flowers, to see amazing rocky cliffs and white sand stretching for miles. We then continued to Gantheaume Point, where if the tide is right you can see ancient dinosaur footprints. Here we could see the huge sweep of Cable Beach stretching beyond the wide expanse of sea. Cadbury enjoyed a cuddle with a group of kids nearby.
Mid afternoon I dropped Gadi and Cadbury off at Cable Beach and I did some shopping and brought back some delicious kebabs to eat on the beach while we watched another amazing Broome sunset.
We drove back in the dark, put the shopping away and made a big Greek salad as we were still hungry after our early dinner on the beach.
Good night from Broome xx
