Saturday I got up at 7 and went to McDonald's on Kensington High Street for a bagel and coffee before leaving for Canterbury and the castle. Leeds Castle was amazing! I think it's my absolute favorite place that I've ever been to. There's so much open space and beautiful land all around it. There are walking paths, a couple of aviaries and peacocks walking around all over the place! The palace itself is gorgeous and we even got to take pictures inside so I posted them on here as well. It's such a bright and cheerful castle and the decorating is perfect. I think it's funny that the last person who owned it was an American and when she died she donated it to the UK. It's also known as the Queens' Castle because so many queens loved to stay there.
We stopped at Canterbury before we went to the castle and it was a waste of time. We saw the cathedral, but it was optional to go in for the tour. I would have, but you had to pay to get in and there wasn't much of the original building left because of Henry VIII's temper tantrum over Catholicism and the bombing from WWII. So Allison and I just walked around the general area there until we had to be back on the buses. I did get some loose mango tea at a little tea and coffee shop though. We ended up eating at Subway because it was the only place we could actually sit. Those subs were one of the best meals I've had here, not including Paris. It was so good!
After Canterbury and Leeds we headed back for London and got in around 5.30. Allison and I went to Tesco's and got sandwiches and these really good cheese twists for dinner. I thought about going out to the park or seeing a movie, but I was so tired so I just stayed in.
This morning Christa and I went to McDonald's (twice in two days for me!) and got breakfast at 9. Then we took the tube over to Speaker's Corner to listen to the crazies whine about things they have no background in...like politics. It really made me mad so I left. I hate how these people want so much without having to do anything and expect the government to help them out. Anyway...after that we went to Camden Markets and that was so cool! There are so many stalls and they even have them in the old stables and all up and down the locks. It was fun just looking at all of the different things people were selling. There were a lot of Gothic stands and there are a lot of weird people who hang out there. They burn incense too and I can't stand that smell. I could hardly breathe in some places because the smell was so strong. We even saw this guy called Prince Albert and you could have your picture taken with him. He had piercings all over his face and body and was covered in tattoos. I seriously considered it, but he really scared me so I chickened.
We were at Camden until 3 and then came back to do some homework before the show tonight. I had dinner with Christa and her mom and sister at Garfunkel's and they even paid for me and my ticket to the show! It was so nice. After dinner we went and saw Love's Labour's Lost at Shakespeare's Globe and I'm pretty sure it's my new favorite play after A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was so funny! I met Christa's dad there too and he cracks me up. He went to 4 church services throughout the day today just so he could check out the organs! Christa says he's in this organ club or something back in St. Louis. I thought it was pretty cool that they even have that.
Now I'm back in my room and I should be asleep because I have a long day tomorrow, but I thought I'd update really fast. Tomorrow I'm going to Harrods and Oxford Street and I'm not sure what I'm doing in the evening...I was thinking about going to see Phantom of the Opera, but I'm not sure yet.
