Yesterday was so much fun! I got tickets to see Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. It was such a good deal too. They were normally $100 tickets, but our University got them for $30. We were in the stalls on the main floor. We took the tube to get there and it was right at the end of rush hour, thank goodness, because there's no air conditioning in them and it only gets hotter with more people in them. The theatre is so old and there's no air conditioning in there either, but it never got hot. The music for the show was really good and I'll probably have the songs in my head for a week.
After the show, we got back on the tube and headed to Leicester Square. Most of the small pubs close around 11 (which all of the study abroad kids were upset to find out about), but some of the bigger ones stay open a little longer. It was where the nicer pubs were. Two of the girls I was with got carded because they don't look like they're 18, but it's funny because they're actually 21! Christa and I decided to split a drink, but the menu was so huge it took us forever to decide on one. We picked a cocktail called the Mon Cheri and apparently out of all the bazillion drinks on the menu, this one was one of the strongest. The bar tender asked us if we were sure we wanted it and we were so he made it. While we were waiting, one of the guys at the bar said that we were looking at the menu like we were in a book club or something! There were so many drinks on the menu though! After we got our drinks we headed down to the lower part and sat. That drink was so strong too! It's definitely a sipper. We stayed there for a while and took a lot of random pictures before catching the last tube back to Kensington. It's funny because when we tell people we're staying in Kensington, they think we're rich. I'm so glad I do live here because it's such a nice area to be in. When I got back to my room though I realized how much I smelled like smoke! I'm pretty sure I'll only be going to a pub one more time for a pint and it will be after July 1st (London is going smoke-free). They're just so crowded and noisy...I'm not really a big fan.
I'm not sure what I'm doing tonight. Down in the common room they'll be showing Notting Hill and then The Queen, but I think I'm going to go find the Peter Pan statue with Christa. I'll put up some more pictures later too!
