I'm finally starting to get caught up with everything. So Monday I went to In Celebration with Orlando Bloom. I didn't realize how much of a drama it was! I really liked it though. There was an older couple sitting next to me and the woman was reading Orlando's biography and she had never heard of him before! I thought it was so funny, but I didn't say anything. It was so weird sitting there so close to the stage and watching him for two and a half hours. The woman who played his mother was amazing too. I can't remember her name, but she did a really good job. After the play there were some people waiting in the alley beside the building for the actors to come out. I would have waited too, but I was so tired from Paris that I just wanted to come back home and go to sleep. Christa and her parents are going to see it sometime so I'll just meet them there after the show and wait for the actors then.
Oh, I almost forgot to say that Monday morning and afternoon Christa and I went to the Sherlock Holmes Museum and Regent's Park. We actually got into the museum for free, but didn't realize it until after we were in. There was a group there before us who had bought their tickets and I guess the man by the door just assumed we were with the group and let us in as well. We're such rebels! The museum was pretty cool; it had scenes from the Sherlock Holmes books and a lot of stuff from that time period. We had a fun time posing with the mannequins too.
The museum didn't take as long as we had originally planned so we headed across the street to Regent's Park because I wanted to take a picture of the Open Air Theatre where we saw A Midsummer Night's Dream. Regent's Park is probably the most beautiful park in all of London. There are so many different gardens and flowers that smell so good! Statues are hidden everywhere and we found at least 3 little water gardens with waterfalls. It was a beautiful day for it too. We were lucky.
Tuesday morning we went to Westminster Abbey. It's a pretty big place and a lot of cool things to see. My favorite part was the memorial to Isaac Newton. They have it all laid out where you go in one side of the abbey and walk almost in a complete circle and exit out another door. It's so old too. The Chapter House has really old wall paintings from medieval times. There's also a museum where they have the effigies from the funerals of a few monarchs and dignitaries. It's weird looking at them because they're made to look exactly like them and the heads are made of wax so it's like you're actually looking at a real person...kind of creepy. At the end of the walk around the abbey I lit a candle and said a prayer for Megan that this would be her last round of radiation and chemo treatments and she wouldn't have any complications from them.
Tuesday afternoon our class (which consists of 6 people) went to the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery to look at pre- and post-Industrial Revolution artwork. The National Portrait Gallery has an entire room dedicated to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert! There's also a beautiful painting of Princess Diana when she was younger and the cool Warhol prints of Queen Elizabeth. Tuesday evening I did the Beatles walking tour. A guide took us around parts of London that had significance to the Beatles. We ended at Abbey Road and got our pictures taken crossing the road! It's a semi-busy street and I'm sure drivers get annoyed at all the people crossing during the day.
This morning I didn't really do anything. I've been worn out since Paris and I needed a little break. We just watched a video in class today and the I went to see Les Miserables this evening. I love that music! And the guy who plays Marius used to be in S Club 7! I used to watch their show all the time. Cool stuff. Tomorrow I'm going to the Prime Meridian with some people and then I think we're just hanging out in Greenwich for the afternoon. Hopefully the weather is nice.
