I haven't had any time to update!! I still don't right now, so this will be short. This weekend I went to Paris and the weather was perfect! I took the Eurostar under the English Channel and it only took about 2.5 hours to get to Paris from London. Our hotel was nice and near a metro station. Friday evening we went up to the top of the Eiffel Tower and had dinner in a cafe nearby. That night we went on a boat ride on the Seine and saw a lot of the major landmarks and popular hangout places. Next to a bridge there was a guy peeing into the river and he waved at us as the boat went by! Gross!
Saturday morning we had to be up early for breakfast and a bus tour. Breakfast was amazing compared to what I've been eating for the past month. Their yogurt is really good and so is the coffee. The bus tour was just a general tour around the central part of Paris. We saw a lot of cool places like where Victor Hugo wrote his novels, where he lived, who went to school at certain universities and we even got to see the apartment where Dartanion the Musketeer lived! We also saw the Ritz Hotel where Princess Diana had her last meal. We walked through Luxembourg Gardens, which had a ton of flowers.
After the bus tour we went over to the Louvre. I got to see the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Cupid and Psyche, and a lot more paintings and sculptures. We didn't even go through half of the museum. You really need a week to see everything. I did get to take a picture of the two pyramids pointing at each other in the lower ground level of the Louvre. I didn't realize how huge it actually was and the Mona Lisa was a lot smaller than I pictured.
I really wanted to see the Opera Garnier because I'm such a Phantom of the Opera freak. Katie did too so we got lunch at a cafe nearby and then hurried over to the opera house before it closed. This was probably my favorite part about Paris. The Garnier is such a beautiful building and there is so much to see inside of it. There is even a little museum where they have costumes from shows performed in the 18 and 1900s. We didn't get to go completely inside of the auditorium because they had the stage set up for a ballet, which Katie and I wanted to see that night, but they had just sold out. We got to stand in a royal box and look down at the auditorium though. We spent almost 2 hours in there and I took a lot more pictures than I realized. Then we just headed down the road back to our hotel and did some window shopping. It was such a beautiful day and we didn't want to take the metro back, but we ended up walking back 2.5 miles!
That night we took the metro to Notre Dame and had dinner in a restaurant there. We sat outside and got to see the sunset. I ordered lasagna and it was so good! There was different kinds of cheese on it and it was perfect. I got a cookies and cream milk shake with real whipped cream and cocoa powder on top. It was the best meal I've had in a long time. We stayed there for almost 3 hours just eating and talking. It was a lot of fun. After that Christa, Lyndsey, and I walked back to our hotel. We went past Notre Dame and there was a juggler juggling fire and then he juggled fireworks that went off all around him. It was pretty cool, especially since it was dark so it really lit up.
Sunday morning I got up early again for breakfast and to head out to Versailles. That place is ridiculously huge. It's so intimidating. The line was so long after we got in too so we were glad we got there early. All of the rooms are so ornately decorated and have such detail that there's so much to look at. The gardens are absolutely beautiful. We didn't get to see everything there because we didn't have a whole lot of time, but there is so much to see and do. We had to be back by 3 to leave for Gare du Nord station to get back to England.
Monday morning Christa and I went to the Sherlock Holmes Museum and Regent's Park. We didn't have to pay to get into the museum, but it was a total accident! We didn't realize the tickets had to be bought at the giftshop register and there was a group going into the museum so we just followed them. There was still time to kill after the museum so we headed over to Regent's Park and walked around. The flowers are so pretty and smell really good and there's so much to find there that seems hidden in all of the different gardens. The weather was perfect for it too.
Okay, well I need to get going, but I'll try and post tomorrow about the Orlando Bloom play, Westminster Abbey, and the Beatles walk!
