I got homesick for the country today. I love being here, but the only time I ever see grass is when I'm in a park. And there are always people around no matter what time of the day. I think the trip to Stonehenge and Salisbury this weekend will be really good. Wide open spaces and tons of grass!!! I'm sick of the other people studying here too. They're so materialistic and their manners are horrible. All of the girls wear those nasty leggings with the stretchy dresses over them and have huge bags that say Prada or Chanel and their huge ugly, gaudy sunglasses with their hair that's packed with gel and scrunched to make it look semi-wavy. They were dressed like that even when we went to Parliament! I know they're trying to look like rich celebrities, but when I see them I think of trashy people. A lot of celebrities are trashy. You don't need to be poor to be a skank. And then they blow all of their money on shopping, clubs, alcohol, and Starbucks! Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I'm pretty sure the whole point of studying abroad is to be absorbed into another culture, not shop every day. I always wondered why they have such a bad picture of Americans here and now I know why. I'm actually embarrassed to do any cultural activities they sign up for through University here because I know they'll attract attention.
Then there's the issue of my roommate. She just graduated high school and is the youngest one here. I think she was trying to prove she's mature or something because the first night she hooked up with some English guy she met at a bar and didn't even come back until the next morning! I realize she's only 2 years younger than me, but there's such a difference in maturity. Anyway, she's been hanging out with this guy since the first day here. His parents are well off and last night she was so upset because she found out he does drugs. He smokes cannabis and the other night she saw him snort a horse tranquilizer! It really upset her and now she's really homesick. I feel like I should have told her not to go anywhere with any guy and don't get attached either. There was no where for the relationship to go. She's only here six weeks and it's not like the U.S. is just a few hours away so they could keep it up. She didn't consider any of that when she got here, she just jumped right in.
I'm just really sick of stupid people right now. I need to go sit in the park away from all of these idiot Americans and do nothing for a few hours. Tonight I'm going to see A Midsummer Night's Dream in Regent Park's outdoor theatre so that should be fun. And tomorrow's Friday!
