As this is the 5th attempt to post a blog I am dividing it in two parts.
The trip here took nearly 20 hours so we didn't go exploring. The mind was willing but the body wasn't. However, Geoff found this tiny bar in one of the narrow lane ways.
We went inside, the lunch rush was over and we were the only patrons. This was a perfect opportunity to sample the local beer, "pivo" and of course the red wine....
Our meal was superb, "simple food, but good" , in the owner's words. Fried pink calamari, sprinkled with salt and lemon juice, a plate of fresh sardines, dipped in flour, fried and drizzled with this syrupy olive oil from the island of Hvar.
This was accompanied by a plate of chard and a basket of fresh bread.
Can it get any better? Yes! The owner insisted we finish with Local Grappa. Geoff had one made from herbs which took your breath away and mine was made from figs.
No wonder people here walk around singing....
