Split has taken our breath away.It is so much more than what we expected.
The city is built around and within Diocletian's palace and is a listed world heritage site. The palace was built by the Emperor Diocletian in the early 4th century and people have been living here since. It is an amazing feeling to be living in a part of history, it is difficult to explain.
There are dozens of bars, restaurants, shops and apartments all tucked away in narrow streets within the walls . We were met on the promenade by our hostess, a young woman called Angela, who proceeded to lead us up huge stone steps, around corners and through narrow streets within the palace walls until we reached our lodgings. At one stage, we had to pick our way through a small crowd who were watching a group of tenors sing.
I had serious doubts as to whether we would be able to find our apartment again but no worries, Geoff has no such problem with his radar. We are tucked away in a tiny courtyard and we can hear the tenors singing and neighbours talking.
