Round the world in 150 days
So today I am officially over it and am actually considering cutting my hair off to avoid unwanted attention. Later in the day, Manuel assures me that this is what latino men are like and it is harmless and not to cut my hair off. He says that i am going to encounter this throughout the mediterranean. Excellent!!!
I am feeling tired and cranky today and not in the mood for anyones crap. No polite smiles today.
But then a man walks past and i say hello and he stops me, shakes my hand and says 'bien viajes' (good journey). And then continues on. And some kids in a car point crazily in the right direction when i'm standing at a cross road looking lost. And an old lady hangs out of a window and tells me i'm going the right way when i'm looking a bit lost again.
So the notes that i wrote to myself about not look at, smiling at, giving directions to or talking to ANYONE can't be used all the time.
I met a nice spanish man and lady in a rest area who i chatted to for a while and then they gave me some strawberries.
My clothes are dirty so i had an idea to strip them all off and put them in a bad and then get into my sleeping bag and open the bottom up so i can walk and then go to a dry cleaner and drop the bag out the bottom for them to wash. One of my more brilliant idea that i came up with while walking along a path straight to a small hill on the horizon that leads to another path that leads the horizon.
My clothes ALL stink.
At the Albergue i stopped at, i was sitting down relaxing when a big german man storms in to see the hospitalero. The hospitalero doesn't speak german so he tells me to come with him. We get upstairs and the german tells me that he put his stuff next to the bed but the hospitalero has given it to a spanish lady. So 2 people, 1 bed. The hospitalero basically says bad luck and get another bed and then there are 2 people raising their voices at each other in languages that neither can understand. The hospitalero gestures to the german that he has a thick head and then the german's friend gets mad and picks up his stuff to leave. But the one without the bed calms him down. I ask the Spanish lady if she wouldn't mind taking my bed and i'll take the bunk in with french people. It was all too simple really. I was trying not to laugh out loud because this makes people angrier.
I had dinner with 22 people from France, Spain and Germany. Very funny drunk German men, which i was grateful for because until now, i was thinking that Germans were a bit strange.
