Round the world in 150 days
Walked with my 'deutsche freund' Ben for 18kms to Leon. We came up with an idea for an opera. A couple of days ago in one of the albergues, he described to me very dramatically why Germans are the only smart people in the world to have doors that open outwards (after i explained to him that you would hit people in the face with those kinds of doors):
Ben: (in german accent) 70 people in a burning building. (Singing)¨Fire fire, fire fire and we don't have no water!¨
(Ben then grabs the handle and throws himself up against the door which DOESN'T open due to it opening inwards)
Skye: This is an interesting scenario ben, but when have you seen 70 people in a burning building trying to escape while the door won't open?
Ben: Germans also invented A4 paper and A5. They like order and uniforms.
2 days later on the camino, 'Fire fire, fire fire and we don't have no water', has become our theme song and we are currently working on a modern opera, run-lola-run style with 3 stories, each with 70 people trying to escape a burning building but one with an outwardly opening door, one with an inwardly opening door and another with a rotating door. It hasn't really gone much further than that but wait for it.
Arrived in Leon and decided to stay in a hostel so i can sleep in. It costs me 15€ to sleep in a double bed in my own room as opposed to 5€ to sleep on the top bunk in a room with 49 other people, 25 of whom are snoring and the other 24 who are awake and moving restlessly due to the snorers.
I went to a market place which was packed and while looking at my map at the bottom of a ramp, was asked by a little girl to move so her brother, on his bike at the top of the ramp, could ride down into the PACKED market place. It was very funny to watch this kid swerving to miss people and his sister and i looking at each other and cracking up laughing.
The market place was great and the entire town was packed until around 2 o'clock when i walked out of a cafe after eating lunch to find it completely dead. Like a ghost town. It's so strange!!
But now it's 7pm and everyone has come out of hiding and i'm sure it'll be a big night. It always is in the towns. These spaniards are crazy. I wish i had some decent clothes to go out in. But I think i may be getting the avian flu so i should go back to my little room and go to sleep.
