Round the world in 150 days
This journal entry is entitled ¨Where the f&%! is McDonalds¨.
Short walk to Ponferrada and on the way i bump into two Amsterdamians who i've been bumping into for a couple of weeks. I talk to Mariana about McDonalds and the evil empire that is taking over both of our countries (America). While i'm looking for the internet, i see a sign for McDonalds which i haven't seen at all since i've been in Spain. Mmm, a hamburger would go down so well right now. So after i find the net, i follow the direction of the arrow. Up to the top of the street (about 500m) to a fountain. No sign of McDonalds and i can't ask anyone because that's just too embarassing. Oh well. Then i go into a supermarket and when i'm leaving, i ask the girl in a quiet voice where McDonalds is. She directs me back to the fountain and turn left. I got there and keep walking. Still no sign of McDonalds. By this stage i'm hungry and tired and i'm HAVING McDonalds. I ask another lady and her child starts jumping around at the mention of the word. She says i'm miles away and points me in the right direction. Bloody check out chick! So i keep walking. I ask a pregnant lady and she says 'Go right, keep going right'. To be continued.....
So, where was i?? Pregnant lady... So i walk a bit more and imagine, an angelic light shining on me from the golden arches. By this stage, i'm starving and tired and i cannot help a smile from crossing my face. I never thought i'd be so happy to see McDonalds. And needless to say, it's the BEST McDonalds I've ever had. I look at my map and decide that since it's coming close to siesta time and the next town is 16kms away, I think i'll just stick with the 7kms i've already done today. Oh yeah, they have beer on tap at McDonalds.
A german man called Stefan and his silent daughter cook a delicious meal and i decide to cook breakfast tomorrow.
