Sunday : sunny
Well its our last day in Nepal and we are both sad to leave. Nepal has been fantastic, it took us a couple of weeks to ease into how things are done here. It was so laid back, we were too used to being on edge all the time in China.
The Nepali people are awesome, they are so friendly, whether we are walking down the Kathmandu streets or through small mountain villages they all greet you with a smile and a big Namaste! They love to talk, and to find out where your from, and to offer any help over a cup of tea. They are a laid back lot, except when they are on motorbikes or driving taxis. We have met some new friends here, and will be sure to keep in touch for our next visit.
The people are as much as a surprise or wonder as the Himalayan mountains. They're amazing we spent so many hours looking at them, I loved it. (The mountains that is) The size, the shapes the snow, even their names are great. The walks were tough but when we got the views that we did, it was worth it.
As if the mountains weren't enough they have the jungle areas down south, which are full of grand animals. I completely forgot about the animals they have here, especially the rhino. They're awesome looking things, and we were very lucky to see them too.
We didn't really have any problems here, the only hard times would be the long dirty bumpy bus trips, there are no trains in Nepal. The Nepali street merchants also barely put up a fight, you spend more time trying not to get taken out by a taxi or motorbike on the streets. There are all types of shops here, definitely the main ones are the trekking, local souvenir, map and money exchange shops. But if you look harder you will find something different.
Yep India is going to have trouble topping Nepal. We think we are going to have to change back into the China or Vietnam mind set. Be tough and hard, it all starts tomorrow.
But not before today, we got up and were eating breaky and drinking freshly ground coffee before 9. We hung around the cafe for awhile, just talking about Nepal and the plans for India. I think we are going to miss Nepal's food also.
Next we did some down jacket and down sleeping bag shopping. We found the best ones, and bought two bags and two jackets for $260. Not bad for goose down -20 gear. We know it's good gear too, because we bought the same brand as the gear we hired for our EBC trek. It was like a kind of try before you buy, we figure we might need some warm clothes for sunny England.
Next we had another coffee and sandwich break for lunch, with more psych up talks about India. Kim's a bit worried about the change, but I think she's just upset to leave Nepal, we could stay for another couple months here no probs. Do a few more treks and check out another couple areas, but I think India could be a nice little surprise we'll see.
After the coffee we went back to the hotel to try and pack our bags. Wow somehow we got all the gear in, now I just hope my bag is allowed on the plane, it's weight concerns me. Ah well we will deal with it tomorrow.
It was turning into early evening so we got cleaned up and headed over to our mate Laxman's office. We gave him a thank you card, just saying how much we appreciated his help, with us, Bob and Will. He was very grateful, he gave us a couple scarfs and wished is safe travels. Will see him again when we return.
We then went out for our last dinner, and where better place to have it than at Revolution cafe. It was our first meal in Nepal 40 days ago and now it's our last. We had to finish with Dal Bhat and buffalo Momo's and it's probably the best place we have eaten those two meals.
Dal Bhat full power! As the tshirts say. we went for our last night walk, we exchanged some money, bought a prayer wheel for home. Also picked up some grub for a quick room breaky for tomorrow.
Back at the hotel we paid our bills then watched the Indian episode of an Idiot Abroad, to get us in the mood for tomorrow.
