Sunday : rain, sunny, rain
That altitude chamber really messed with me. I couldn't breathe properly last night at all, I was up early not knowing what to do.
It was a wet and cold morning, so I had hot milk muesli to warm me up, before we ventured out.
I was struggling for first time this whole trek, and I blame that chamber again. I Was having trouble getting full breaths in and I had a wicked headache.
We arrived at our lunch stop ahead of schedule, probably because no one wanted to stop in the freezing cold rain. The restaurant was warm inside at least with all the other trekkers. It's the only place we walk past till our next stopover. Kim, Niss and I had a hot chocolate, and veggie fried noodles.
It was absolutely freezing when we left. So cold, had ti be snowing somewhere, that it was raining ice. We had to tackle this big rocky hill straight after lunch, and with my breathing problems still causing me grief, and also now I had a full tummy to make the rock hill even more difficult.
We saw our first person suffering from altitude sickness too on the hill, made us think how risky these high treks really are. The young girl had left the restaurant a mere 10min before us, and she was getting raced back down the rock mountain on the back of a porter. She did not look well at all, she couldn't keep her head up, and her eyes were rolled way back in her head. We needed to just keep cruising the way we have been to stay safe.
Once at the top, we had a well deserved break. It was also at a memorial for people who have lost their lives in the Himalayas. There would of been 100 stone memorials, most of them for people who had died on Everest.
It took less than an hour to get to our next stopover town which is Lobouche at 4900m. The sun had come out too for the final stint, it felt great. The whole walk took 4hrs, it was suppose to take 6hrs, the guides were impressed.
My headache had not improved if anything it got much worse. I soon retired to my room and drank lots of water, had a couple naps, while listening to Gervais podcasts and the rain outside the window.
I came out for dinner, and to socialize by playing some cards for a couple hours. We had our brief too for tomorrow. We are off to the base of Mt Everest, awesome. A few more games of cards was all we could fit in before to solar power ran out. It was probably best to end the games there and to get some rest, big eight hour walk tomorrow.
