My Camino Journey
I woke up this morning and my whole body was aching, the bed I was in last night was so uncomfortable. I was really struggling and the thought of doing 24.5km was not appealing, especially considering today it was cold, the wind was like ice.... I was talking to a couple of German girls who had decided to catch the bus today to Burgos. It was only 3€ and covered 2 days of walking. I decided this would be a good option for me, I could catch the bus and arrive in Burgos before lunch, it was a big city and I would have no problem getting a room, and a day rest would hopefully allow my body the time it needed to feel better. When we arrived at the bus stop, to my surprise there were already a number of pilgrims there, after having so many days with the temperature well over 30 this cold snap was taking its toll, as we were standing at the bus stop there was an electronic sign which told us all it was 7 degrees.. The bus ride was short enough and along e way we picked up even more pilgrims who had decided it was told cold to walk, including my Dutch friend Maryanne who I met on day one in Utegra and had roomed with back in Torres del Rio. She saw me and we both laughter at the fact we were on the bus, instead of being proper pilgrims and walking all the way..... Once at Burgos we decided Coffee was number 1 on the list and quickly found a cafe, as we were walking we passed by a laundromat which I decided would be a wise idea to utilise on my first day of no walking. After coffee with the girls I left them and went straight back to the laundromat and washed and dried all the clothes I had. While I was waiting for my clothes I made a reservation at a hotel about a 20 minute walk from where I was. I made it to the hotel, showered and got in to nice clean clothes. I rugged up as best I could and headed out again, I wanted to spend some time exploring Burgos seeing how I wasn't spending the day walking. I ended up taking a tour of the beautiful cathedral and wandered around enjoying the town. I also was able to pick up a pair of gloves and some extra warm leggings for walking tomorrow, the news was predicting another cold day and I wanted to be as prepared as possible. I had an early dinner and was back in my room by 8.30pm, I even got to watch an episode of NCIS Miami, which is extremely entertaining with Spanish voice overs.
