Hello Dears!! So sorry I haven't posted for a while, I was actually writing this on Friday but got distracted with homework and helping my sister and various things, and then I haen't been home all weekend so hadn't got round to actually doing it till now. But anyhoos, on with my weekend!!
We start with Friday, which for me was a school trip to 'El Centro Cultural de las telecomunicaciones' which was great fun. We got to school at normal time then we all piled off into buses to the centre. The weather that day was awful; raining, but not the awesome thunderstorm-y rain, it was just boring, grey, drizzly, icky rain that you get in England so wasn't cool at all. Luckily most of the day was spent inside though.
First of all, our group was taken off into this cinema kind of room where we talked about and were shown a video about these three sisters from Santo Domingo who were murdered, and how on the anniersary of their death there is a day of no violence in the Dominican Republic, which was very interesting and provocative to watch, even if I didn't understand everything. We then went down to a room where we sat down in groups and had to write and draw about the values important to ourselves and society. I had a LOT of fun with the drawings...you can take the crayola away from the child, but you can never take the child away from the crayola...or something like that?
After that, our group split up to go look at different areas of the place. Mine went towards a sort of exhibit about the history of radio in Dominican Republic, and a history of television in the Dominican Republic, but the most interesting part was a green screen room they had all set up, with screens either side of the room so you could see what you or whoever was in the room looked like with the backdrop (in our case it was a city landscape) and people took a load of photos, which I shall upload just as soon as they are put online.
After that, we went off towards another section of the building and were shown first of all about the history and development of robotics, and how that turned into motion sensor robotics and artificial intelligence, and we all got a go on an x-box kinect playing ping pong and I am ery proud to say that I was by far the best out of everyone, and got the most rallies. I am putting it down to all the wii tennis i'e played with the family. We were then shown all about touch screen technology and got to dabble with some touch screen televisions and computers which was all interesting and fun and lovely.
After that we all went back to the buses, people who had food haing something to eat and generally hanging out for a little bit, getting pictures (which, again, will be added once I manage to upload them) and at one point, a street vendor came over to the buses and was selling various necklaces, and I bought myself una tortugita named Jeffrey, who is the picture for this post, and I also bought one for my friend who hadn't brought any money. In general, it was just a really fun day and a good start to a very busy, fun-filled weekend, but I really hae to get on and finish a Spanish presentation now so I shall tell you what I got up to over the last couple of days tomorrow, with plenty of pictures, I promise. Until then, bye!
