Today has been quite emotional as we said goodbye to all the staff who had helped us with the trek, cooked for us at camp, and transported our bags around the Himalayas. We had a final breakfast at Sian's house then set out for our last full day exploring India. We visited a Hindi temple which has been dated back to 804AD which had beautiful and intricate carvings all the way around and inside the temple. There was a stone carved sacred cow statue there in which you whisper your wishes and prayers into the cow's ear. We also had a mark (similar to the red bindi mark) put on our forehead - which looked like peanut butter! Jane then bought us all freshly cooked samosas which were the best iv ever had! Transferred by minibus to Norbalinka Institute where the Tibetan culture is preserved and had a lovely Tibetan style soup for lunch with baked savoury pastries. Delicious!! The Tibetan institute was set in amazing gardens with tranquil water falls and man made rivers running throughout. There was also a small museum and temple within the grounds. My favourite though was the Tibetan gift shop. Expensive but they had some amazing handmade bed linen and hand carved boxes. After Norbalinka we transferred 3hours to Johti where we had our first breakfast after the overnight sleeper train last week for a light evening meal. Overnight on the sleep train again tonight :( currently lying as still as I can so I don't touch anything. Had a couple of sneaky cups of beer with Lisa on the train to help us sleep. So I will now do just that and wait for the 3:30am wake up call to depart the train :(( love to all xx
