I woke up this morning to to find yesterday's sunburn had calmed down and gone brown over night - what a bonus! As usual we got up about half 8, ate breakfast and just messed around, before going for a surf. I wanted to go to Kuta about lunch time, so we decided to surf Ulus as it was the closest/best wave to Leggies. Dan decided to have a 'lay day', so the other 4 of us headed off and left him in peace.
The surf was actually much better than I had expected. It was about 4ft with occasional sets which were considerably bigger, especially towards the end. We surfed for about 2 hours, and I had a good session. It was a bit slow to start with but I got a few nice ones later on.
Some idiotic Australian guy about my age tried his best to get into a fight with me out in the water. I held my position and paddled for a wave, he couldn't take it, and tried to paddle right over the top of me and started F'ing and blinding. Safe in the knowledge there were 4 of us and 1 of him if it did kick off, I told him where to go and he pissed off. Loser. Unfortunately Ulus is full of that sort of person acting big time, so although it's a fun wave it definitely wasn't my favourite break.
We got back from the surf about 12:30pm, smashed some lunch and then all hopped straight in a taxi to Kuta.
First stop was the Tattoo place Charlie and Dan got theirs done when they arrived in Bali. Charlie had done all sorts of research about reputable and safe places to get them done, as Bali has a lot of sleasy joints. The settled on the one with the best record called '2 Guns', which is an Aussie owned and run place.
I had the idea/design I wanted floating around in my head since I left Australia, but wasn't sure if I had the balls to do it. Then having had such a brilliant time with the boys over the last few weeks it confirmed I definately wanted it done as a momento of my year away, told Charlie and he got us there in the taxi.
Being in a tattoo parlour was wierd enough, but explaining what I wanted done was even more strange. I discussed exactly what I wanted and he penned the outline on, and it was a done deal. He gave me the needle to check in its sealed packet with the expiary date etc, and the room was not until a hospital theatre..just more constantly furnished!
I had asked people before what getting them is like, or how they feel, and the most common answer was like a 'cat scratching you'. Having now experienced it I recon that's pretty good description, for the softer/more fleshy areas. However when it's right on the bone it's miles worse, and it feels like its going right into your bone and making it rattle/vibrate in the process.
About 15/20 minutes later it was all done, covered in vasacline and wrapped in clingfilm to keep the dirt out.
It cost their 'standard' price of $120 - it was well worth it, and came out even better than I had imagined.
Then we went off to do the planned shopping in Kuta. The boys were after new boardies and mini speakers etc, and I was just stocking up on standard Bali souveneirs - singlets, sunglasses and a couple of packs of the funny tasting local ciggarettes for the guys back home to try.
By the time we had all bought the bits and pieces we wanted it was early evening, so we got a taxi back to Leggies. As it was my last full night, the logical thing to do was get the beers in! It started off as a few casual ones at our place, then as expected, it mutated into 'let's go to Dreeeaammm Laaaand' (the party place with a club just down the road).
By the time we had got our ride down there it was about 10:30pm, and a respectable number of large Bintsngs had been seen away. We got there and we didn't know what to expect, but a full lit up and function, yet COMPLETELY deserted hotel wasn't it. Once we had wandered around a bit we bumped into someone who did actually work here, so directed us downstairs as that's where the club actually was. So we though 'right ok, maybe things are looking up'. We walked through into this 'IceBar'/club and were all virtually crying with laughter when we found there wasn't another soul in there, aside from the barman and DJ!
By this time we couldn't have cared any less, and we probably made the bar man's week, as he didn't half look surprised to see customers. Long story short we decided the best+cheapest thing to do was buy a big bottle of vodka to dish out, and the bar man threw in the mixers and peanuts etc for free.
We ran up a bit of a muck like hyper kids until something like 2am. There ended up being 4 bar men and 5 of us just messed around and taking pictures behind the bar etc. Despite being the only 'customers' there it was an ansolute blast just messing around with the guys, and probably the best last night I could have hoped for!
We got our ride back when the hotel/bar people had had enough and wanted to close up for the evening. As I mentioned I think it was about 2ish, but in reality I don't have a clue!
