Thursday 31st July...(Day 45). Well I started writing this last Wednesday (6th of August) when I was on my way on the bus from Malaga to Seville to try and catch up on all the days I've been missing, but as I got half way through writing it, my phone decided to s*** itself and go flat! So I haven't had time since then to write at all - it's been crazy and most of the time I've not had any internet!
So on Thursday the 31st of July, Jaime returned home from his 2 week summer camp. The kids and I had spent the day at the pool and then headed over to the cousins house to play some pingpong. The cousins are Kiké's (just found out it's not spelt 'Kiki',whoops!) older brother and family and they have a summer house just over the road from ours. It's a lovely property and they have a proper pingpong table unlike our miniature kitchen table that we use for it lol. The cousins are Marta (21 and pronounced 'Malta'), Jose (18 and pronounced 'Ho-seh') and Carlos (14). They are lovely and I spend most of the evening playing pingpong with Carlos. He seems a lot older than 14 and is such a cutie, he will have the girls falling all over themselves when he's older that's for sure! Jaime comes to the house we're at when he arrives and we all greet him and ask him how his camp was. He's as black (tanned) as ever and has discovered he likes golfing and is apparently really good at it!!! It's nice having all 4 children now and at night after dinner we all play card games together. ...so Saturday (the 2nd of August) it is Alvaro's 15th birthday and I know that we are all going to be heading down to Malaga and probably wouldn't be doing much for specifically for his birthday, so I thought of maybe organising a mini surprise party for him on the Friday (tomorrow) so that he can be with his friends and feel special. The parents haven't seemed to plan anything so I propose the idea to them before heading down the road to tell his friends and to come to our house tomorrow about 5.30pm to surprise him. They agree and I decide I'm gonna make a cake and make a full-on effort for him (he deserves it!) I make him a Birthday card out of orange and blue card cut into the shape of a soccer ball and use blue and green glitter to write Happy Birthday and then write the Seville football team name on the ball along with some of the players names. I also drew the logo of the team thanks to Ale sourcing a picture for me. Hopefully we can bake and organise everything tomorrow without Alvaro seeing but it will definitely be tricky lol! The rest of the night I spent playing card games with Patri at the table in the living room and we definitely had the giggles for some reason as everything seemed hilarious. All of a sudden Patri dropped a bit of her Icecream on the floor between her legs and she can not stop laughing as it looks like she has bird-pooed lol. I walk around the table to see and am laughing too, mostly at how much Patri is laughing - I try and clean it up as she sits there but for some reason she falls off her chair in hysterics before I collapse on the floor with her. I don't really know what was so funny but then she started laughing more (if that was even possible) and suddenly she ran to the bathroom holding onto her knickers hahahaha... she had laughed so much that she had wee'ed her pants lol!!! Everyone was laughing at this point, even Eva who could hear us from upstairs! Patri came back into the room with a towel around her holding her knickers! So so so funny! Before I knew it Ale was throwing the knickers at me and laughing her head off and I was squealing and trying to hide my head in disgust that I had pee knickers being flung at me lol.....I don't know why I just said that story as it sounds quite disturbing but I can assure you it was one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed! Anyway!...
Friday comes and from the get-go I start getting out ingredients and everything to make a cake ready for Alvaro's surprise. Ale soon joins me and we raid the pantry and decide we will make jelly, popcorn and sandwiches as well as the cake. I have never made a cake without a recipe especially when using ingredients that are in Spanish and most of the time I'm just guessing what they are lol. But we grab two chairs to reach the top cupboard and raid it completely to find everything we would need for a party; jelly cups, party plates, candles, water balloons; and Alvaro somehow doesn't come in to see what all the fuss is about! We make the food and I make the cake adding a bit of this and a bit of that making it up as I went along. It had a lot of chocolate powder, chocolate syrup, caramel, vanilla and cinnamon I know that much hahaha and I managed to get it in the oven before Alvaro came in to see what we were doing and wondering why we were making jelly! We managed to cover it up well, I think! Ale, Patri and I then made the water balloons which was rather funny as most of them either split or ended up being squirted all over each other lol. Alvaro caught us filling them with the hose around the side of the house but we kept our cool and said it was just us playing lol...By this stage Carlos (cousin) was over at our house and I asked if he would like to stay for lunch. He was in with the surprise and the plan was that at 5pm he would take Alvaro back to his house to play so that we could set-up everything before they came back. Eva arrived just after they left with an Icecream cake and party food and she can't believe how much effort Ale and I have put into everything! She calls me the party-planner who seems to be able to do anything and everything lol but I actually just fluke most the things I do! The cake I make turns out well and I spread this almost Nutella-like spread all over the top that tastes just like Lint
chocolate but doesn't set or go hard..! Alvaro friends arrive and we awaited the return of Carlos and Alvaro. We didn't really know how Carlos was going to pull it off but sooner or later they came into the house and we all jumped out and saying Happy Birthday! There was only a small group of us but by the look on his face he seemed pretty stoked! Every 15 year old needs a party eh! He can't believe he didn't click when he saw us baking everything but we head outside to put all the food out but as he was standing there I spontaneously decided to ditch one of the water balloons at him which ended up turning into a massive water fight between everyone lol, hose included!!!! It was pretty funny...We then eat and try my cake. Eva bought the other cake just incase there wasn't enough but Alvaro tells me that he much prefers my cake (woop!) and for the first time, I will admit, my cake was bloody amazing. I don't know how and I don't think I'd ever be able to make it again but it was seriously delicious - and still slightly warm! Before long, the neighbourhood dog 'Manches' joins us (I think I've mentioned him before) and we all head over to Carlos's house for a swim and to play some pingpong. We spend the rest of the evening there all playing together and yet again, I am being a kid lol! Kind of acting as their supervisor or carer but really just being one of them! I hope Alvaro enjoyed his little party surprise and realises how special he is;; I definitely enjoyed putting it all together for him. At night, we have lasagne and then Patri and I end up playing cards together again and I'm not joking when I say this...but we were laughing so much again that she wee'ed her pants again hahahahah!!!! You should see her laugh when this happens, it truly is the funniest and cutest thing ever! Ale and Kiké couldn't stop laughing either and before I knew it I had wet knickers being flung at me again. How and why was this so funny for them? It's disgusting! (but meh!) There must be something in the air because before long everyone is laughing and I've got my face buried in the couch trying to contain myself. I would have every night like this for the rest of my life if I could; even if it meant wet knickers! Tomorrow we plan to head to Malaga where we will be staying with Kikè's other brother and family who live there right on the beach. We will be staying there for a few days along with the family with Malta, Jose and Carlos who will be heading down also; so a total of about 18 people all together in one house ranging from the age of 8 to about 55! Not bad hey!
Saturday morning comes around (August 2nd) and Kiké decides we aren't going to be heading to Malaga now until tomorrow as he just wants to relax; you can imagine this doesn't go down to well with anyone else and I feel a bit sorry for Alavaro as this dampens his birthday a little bit I feel. It was a pretty intense morning as everyone seemed to be arguing with each other and Alvaro said to me how s*** the day was for his birthday :( I mentioned to Eva that maybe we should do something like head out for lunch or go shopping or to Seville for him but they don't know what to organise and decide that dinner will do later in the evening :/ the whole day is tense for some reason so by the afternoon I decide to take myself to the pool for some air. It's my time off now so I don't have to stick around when it's like this. The dog Manches has really taken a liking to us as well since we started paying attention to him and is forever in our garden and following us around. He decides to follow me all the way to the pool despite our best efforts to get him to return to the house where the kids were calling for him. But no, he was adamant about following me and I end up not being able to go the pool as he wouldn't have been allowed in there and there is no gate to stop him from entering so I decide to sit in the park with him and he actually helps relax me; what a cutie. He doesn't leave my side and has seemed to taken a liking to me. I sit there watching him and decide I wanna call him a different name to Manches for the day! I think how he has become like a companion and so I call out to him 'Panion' for short, just for fun, but his ears immediately cropped up and he ran over to me for a lick. 'Panion' it is then hehe :) I'm silly. I can't remember if I mentioned about this dog but basically he lives across from us but the family are only ever there like once or twice a week and they just leave him there. He has food but he has found a hole in the fence so he wonders the streets looking for company, you can tell how lonely he is. Alvaro and Carlos took a liking to him a few days ago and now we can't seem to get rid of him! He loves us and we love him. It's pretty sad though, I don't know why people would have a dog if they are never there to be with it. Either way, he's good company and follows me all the way home and then Alvaro and I spend the afternoon laying on the floor under the porch with him relaxing. Patri and I play more cards and the day is pretty chilled out before we head to a little country tapas bar in a village for Alvaro's birthday dinner. I do wish we had left for Malaga today though especially as I'll be leaving for Italy on Tuesday so I want to make the most of the time there. Yeh, Italy isn't a bad compromise but still!
I'll write about Sunday and Malaga in the next blog...phew!
