Sunday;; Day 27! This is practically what my day looked like...(check the blog photo!)...my first day off! Bliss! I take advantage of it completely and spend the whole afternoon lounging by the pool, swimming and writing in my journal...this day is also a good time for me to reflect and see what adjustments I can make for the coming week. I care so much about keeping the family happy and making sure the children are not bored that it can be very draining. All my energy goes into them and making sure I am doing the best I can do. So today is good to just sit back, let go, relax, but then also look at how I can improve, which I know I can. My biggest challenge at the moment is being their friend whilst retaining their respect and not being walked all over. I am still getting used to the dynamics of the house and how they live.
As I was sunbathing, I did feel a little bit lonely at one stage, I think because suddenly I had no one to care for, it was just me. I was thinking how nice it would be to have my friends with me too so we could play like everyone else was at the pool lol...I sound like a little kid :p but it doesn't last for long as I end up playing with Jaime and his friends later on in the pool and we play a game called 'Pallalello' - don't know how it's spelt but that's how it sounds anyway! It is nice to meet Jaime's friend properly and be involved with them. We also play with a small volley ball and the other day I proposed an idea where someone stands on one side of the pool and then throws the ball to other person who is running up and jumping into the water. They either kick, head or use their hand to hit the ball whilst they are in mid-air! - my explanations are not at their finest but it seemed to have gone down well and so we play that again.
I also talk with Eva's friend, Manuel, who I have been talking to a lot. He tells me how his daughter, Rothea? (It sounds nicer than it looks and you have to roll the 'R'!!!) who is 15 will be arriving on Tuesday from England. She has been staying with a host family there and studying English and he is excited for me to meet her. Manuel suggests that I should try to mingle with as many spanish people as possible as well while I am here as it will not only help with learning the language but also help create new relationships and connections. He is right and I have been a little more reserved than usual; I guess I've just been focusing on the kids but also just enjoying some quiet-time as it was so hectic in London and also leading up to leaving back in Adelaide...
Around 8pm, (still classified as the afternoon here!) Eva joins us at the pool and we all head up to the cafe (little deli with tables and chairs) area just like we did the other night and we talk with Eva's spanish friends. The one that is studying English and lives in Singapore invites us over to her house to watch the football final between Germany and Argentina! - I should probably try and remember this lady's name!
By now, Kiki has left to go back to the city house ready for work tomorrow. Eva quickly makes us a Spanish potato omelette - sounds weird but it was delicious and apparently very popular here - before we head up the road to Eva's friend's house to watch the match. Jaime watches it at his friends house and Patricia comes with us. It was awesome to be in a different atmosphere and I really enjoyed watching the game. I am glad Germany won but I do feel the heart-break for Argentina!..the World Cup has been much more entertaining watching it in Europe with the culture, rather than getting up at like 4am to watch it in Australia!
By about 2am, I finally get to bed, which has become the usual time for me now, and I go through everything in my head that I need to do tomorrow. I am looking forward to Alejandra arriving tomorrow night as well - she sounds lovely. I am feeling very blessed still that I am here, and I am making the most of every moment. What an experience this has been already! Good night
