Friday;; Day 39. The past few weeks have been all sunshine and full of blessings for me, but it seems that's not the way it has been in other parts of the world just lately.
There have been 4 plane-related incidents in the past couple of months with 3 of them within the space of a couple of weeks. I can't believe it really. I understand at the same time this is still such a low number compared to the amount of car crashes or other accidents happening on a daily basis but planes are meant to be one of the safest ways to travel, right? And they go through intensive safely procedures and checks before every flight and are monitored constantly. I mean, we don't have that kind of procedure every time we jump in our car and set off on a trip do we. Why is this happening! Ergh it's so sad. I just send my prayers to all the families who have lost their loved one(s) and pray that somehow this does not continue to happen. The most recent one; a plane missing in Africa, is baffling my head as there was no sea or anything between Point A and Point B. Where on earth did the plane go? What's going on!...I haven't been watching the news on TV as it's not something the family seem to do here (and I never really watch it anyway) but I have had a look online and of course, Facebook tells you everything these days....This blog isn't to report the worlds breaking news or anything though, I'm just expressing my distress on the matter and to be more light-hearted about it, I think it's safe to say I should just stay in Spain forever, don't you agree?! :) I think it would be for the best! So Spain, get used to me, I'm not going anywhere lol! Apart form Italy in August... And maybe a few other places briefly too! I am seriously in love with it and here where the country house is, there is literally nothing and it's just amazing solely for that reason. When we are here, I don't see one shop, one office building, one restaurant, one TV program, one traffic light, one police officer, or more than 1 item of clothing on anyone's body at any given time lol! And I don't see more than probably 3 cars a day - and those cars are just the people who are staying here driving around who I see every day down at the pool! It really is what Eva described it as; one big family village, and as I get to know more and more people, I can see just how close-knit everyone is. Kiki's brother has a house just down the road from us where they stay in the summer too with their kids and every one seems to have known each other since since they were babies and been friends ever since. In a way I kind of wish that I was brought up in a similar environment but I am very blessed to even be a part of it now and I thoroughly enjoy watching all the kids enjoy life in one big group together. There are always at least 3 generations hanging out together at all times; the grandma's with their children, and their children! It makes me want to have a family...did I just say that!
But anyway, today we all head down to the pool and the kids enjoy being with their cousins before they head home this evening. Back at the house, we have lunch, do more massages to which everyone is scrambling to go first (I think I'm on to something good here!) and then watch Oliver Twist...in Spanish of course. And I realise I don't think I've ever actually watched the movie...maybe a part of it when I was small but that's it! Today won't be the day for it though either as I can't understand much of it. Later on I do some English reading with Alvaro, Ale and Patri and then the cousins Mum arrives (Eva's sister) to pick her girls up. We will hopefully see them again before I leave, and incase I haven't mentioned previously, they are the family who live at the house in Sotogrande where we stayed for a week. The family were in Germany at the time so the house was free! How lucky are they; I want to go nanny for them lol!
At night I cook for everyone; a dish of mine they are yet to try; vegetable fritters!!! Sounds pretty standard, but you haven't tried mine! I do a batch for them, and a small batch for me that are gluten free and lactose free lol! Everyone is down at the park socializing while I am cooking so I prepare the table outside, make 2 salads and get the food ready. They arrive just in time and absolutely love the fritters (yay!) I like these kids haha they haven't disliked anything I've made yet! High on the list of requests though is burrito's that I have been planning to do for everyone but I will leave them until Monday now as I'm off on the weekends so I don't usually cook :) I look after the kids until lunch-time on Saturday's and then I am free until the Monday morning. I plan to rest and sleep most of it to let my knee heel and to also try and overcome this cold that I have picked up. Patricia had one so I think I've caught it from her but I've also been in the pool a lot and doing a million handstands under the water because it's the only thing I can do that doesn't hurt my knee and is fun but all the water is blocked in my ears and somehow I seem to get all the water up my nose like a kid lol. So that probably doesn't help. I don't think I've ever used so many tissues!
I am feeling grateful and blessed after another week here in Spain and I look forward to my knee getting better (hopefully) soon so that I can run around and do all the things I want to do with the kids. The inflammation has gone down but it's still painful and crunchy when I walk so we will see how I go. For now though, it's adios from me :)
