Wednesday;; Day 30! Today has to be a close runner up to yesterday as my favourite day...In the morning I do Alejandra and Patricia's hair in braids before we all head down to the pool. We say goodbye to Jaime as he leaves for camp but he will be back in a week. Down at the pool I relax for a little while before Alejandra and I decide to video each other diving into the pool. You don't realise how silly you can look sometimes until you see yourself haha! Soon after, we are joined by a group of Alejandra's friends who want me to video them all jumping into the pool together. This is a much better idea than videoing me! I always find it amazing how the smallest of things make kids happy...just how it should be... :)
Lunch is much the same but we talk about how it is one of the girls birthdays here tomorrow and a big surprise birthday party is being organised for her tonight. She has no idea but everyone is helping organise it. A cake is being made with balloons and everything. Patricia and Alejandra have to head there at 8.45pm ready to surprise her and so I prepare dinner to make it easier for later. At 7pm the plan is to do Belen's makeup - to which I confirmed with her earlier at the pool!
After some more ping pong and some English reading, we head back down to the pool and I decide to tell a couple of the Mum's how I'll be doing makeup if they or their kids want to watch. They can not speak very good English but they still understand. I soon realise that one of the Mum's I am talking to is Rocio's Mum and I am now introduced to her other 2 daughters; (Rocio's sisters obviously) Anna and Carmen. Anna is 10 but looks 18 and Carmen is 20. They look nothing like Rocio though! We all lounge in the shallow end of the lagoon pool together talking, with Anna translating for everyone as she speaks very good English. Carmen's boyfriend is also with us and he spent some time in America so he speaks good English also but with a true American accent haha! They try and teach me how to say 'makeup' is Spanish which is spelt 'maquillaje' (pronounced something like machqwiyakje hahaha with all the different mouth sounds thrown into one word) and 'makeup artist' which is 'maquillador'...I try my hardest and get there in the end but I think ill just still with the English word for this one!
We talk about how I might do makeup classes in August and they sound very keen.
I hadn't talked to Belen about doing the makeup down here in the cafe area but I knew she would go to our house at 7 and then realise I would be at the pool with the kids; it's very relaxed with times and arrangements!...Meanwhile Anna tells me how much she loves having her makeup done and would love for me to do it in August...
Nearing 7pm, I decide to head over to the big pool to tell Patricia and Alejandra that I'll be up at the cafe. They are playing with their friends and suddenly one of the boys jumps in front of me and asks me to push him in! I'm like 'what?!' lol but he assures me that's what he wants! ..Well, this was the start of about 9 kids suddenly wanting me to push them in. This then turned into me having to hoist each kid up one at a time while they jumped and then launching them into the air and throwing them in the pool lol. Over and over and over again! What a work out! They then suddenly decide that we will all jump in together, much like they do every day, but I feel very privelidged that I am invited to join in as well! All 9 of us stand in a line holding hands and run and jump into the water doing bombs and all sorts. I love it, I am just a big kid. The Spanish kids are so nice and they all try their hardest to speak English to me. Here, all ages seem to hang out together in their little groups and it's as if everyone is family (everyone seems to be everyone's cousin or something!).
By the time it's about 7.15pm I wonder where Belen must be so Rocio's Mum calls her; no answer but I don't stress because I know I will do it another time. Instead we decide to do Anna's!!!! We head up to the cafe area together and before I can even get my makeup and brushes out onto the table, their are suddenly 7 or so girls surrounding us ready to watch! The word must have got around! I only have a little bit of makeup with me but I end up doing quite a glamorous look but suitable for a 10 year old! The Spanish kids are amazed and keep saying 'guapa' (which means beautiful) as I do each colour or detail on Anna's face! We end up having grown ups watching, more girls, and even a few boys before I hand a mirror for Anna to have a look in! ...Her face said it all! She loved it! and her Mum can't believe it! The girls are all saying Wow and staring in awe. It only took about 10 minutes but I really enjoyed it. Patricia suddenly wants hers done too as so of course, I do, and everyone stares again, fascinated by what makeup can do. Both girls suddenly looked so mature and they loved being pampered; you could tell! What a success!!! My blog photo is of Patricia :)
Back at home, I end up doing Patricia's hair and nails to match her makeup. Anyone would think it was her birthday!!! ..I get dinner going and while it's in the oven I head outside to cool down with everyone else under the hose. Some of the cousins are over with a friends dog. I haven't seen a dog in so long so I immediately run up to him, greeting and loving him. His name is Luca. We play some football and run through the hose as it's still crazy hot.
Back inside, I propose to Eva, who is now home, that maybe it would be a nice idea if I offered to do the makeup for the birthday girl whose party is tonight. Eva thinks it is a great idea and decides she will ask the Mum when she goes. The girls head to the party and I serve up dinner for the rest of us. Eva and I decide to quickly head over after dinner before it gets dark to offer to do her makeup. Of course, she says yes and so I enjoy pampering the birthday girl doing her makeup! She loves it and I felt so good being able to give and give someone a smile by sharing my passion. I think she had a good birthday! :) The party was absolute madness as there were more than 30 children plus adults!..
Another great day here and I can not wait for tomorrow as we will be heading down to Sotogrande for a week's summer vacation. Kiki and Eva will be off work and the apartment we will be staying in is where Eva's sisters family live. They are not there at the moment though. The apartment is set within a huge villa-style or resort-style neighbourhood or grounds, however you want to call it, and their are apartments everywhere. Like mini hotels everywhere all within a secure perimeter that is only accessible for the families who live there. There are 3 pools, a gym and a jacoozie? (Can't spell!)... It's luxury! Apparently the weather is a lot cooler there too which is good as it's only getting hotter here!! Good night!
