Friday;; Day 25. The sun is out and I am ready for my first day at the country house - it is so blissfully quiet here and calm. The air is fresh and I am loving wearing no makeup! Once Patricia and Jaime get up, we have breakfast, do some homework and head for the pool. It is such a beautiful area they have built here and it truly feels like I have stepped into a tourists haven. Except I'm working and still getting to experience this! ..There are kids everywhere, parents too and everybody knows everybody - except me of course! But it is like one big family and I love seeing Patricia and Jaime run off to their friends...
I go for a swim and play for a while with Jaime before restoring to some much needed sunbathing. The parents tend to just let the kids play all together and do their own thing, so I'll be on the towel with my face turned towards the sun if you need me lol! Nah, but it seriously beautiful here, so peaceful even with all the children screaming and laughing. It sounds funny but the sun is glorious! No clouds, ever, and you find yourself just being a slave to the sun, spread out on the ground under the heat, going for a dive into the pool, listening to people speak Spanish, and then repeating!!! I don't think I ever expected to be so lucky as to be sunbathing next to a pool as a part of my nannying duties! I do boast, but I do have quite an intense time trying to get their respect and get them to listen to me while trying to remain their friend. They are both at an age where they like to push and push to see how far they can get, but for now I am feeling good and things are running smoothly. Once the other two children arrive next week, it will be interesting to see what happens!
After a couple of hours around the pool and talking to some of the parents friends, we head home for lunch...
So at the moment, breakfast is at 11.30 or there abouts; lunch is at about 3.30pm and dinner is about 9.30pm! Crazy hey! You do get used to it but I end up going to bed so late at night!
Anyway, after lunch, Patricia and I decide we will make cookies!!! At first, I think it will be easy and then I soon realise I have to find all the ingredients which are written in Spanish! Do we even have all the ingredients we need haha?! But, I zone in, and manage to source out everything I need, including some chocolate sprinkles requested by Patricia! I have no recipe, so I wing the measurements with Patricia stirring the mixture until I think it's at the right consistency. She is loving helping bake, we will definitely have to do this again. She asks if she can taste the mixture and apparently it tastes so yummy! Then we have the oven to figure out - which takes me a good 10 minutes (don't ask!) and then we finally get it cranking. 15 minutes later the cookies are ready and we try them. Everyone thinks they are incredible and even I am surprised at how well they turned out. Jaime says that right now I am like his grandma; amazing at cooking! Lol! Everything I have made so far, they have liked, which is a relief!
Soon after, Patricia and Jaime are invited to go play with their friends so I clean up, sit on the couch and end up having an hour or so of a nap. Nothing heavy though unfortunately as you find yourself subconsciously on-guard, almost like you've got one ear pricked constantly ready for any noise!
Once Eva gets home at night, later than we expected, she informs me that the father of her brother-in-law has died suddenly and so tomorrow they will need to go to the burial as well as their 'mass' at church. Kiki will have to drive from Malaga where he is on a work trip and be there for his family and friends. They move very quickly here in Spain with the burial and funeral...not good news anyway but I offer to look after the kids all day (for the Saturday) even though it's meant to be you day off - I'm here to help.
We have dinner late and Jaime and I end up playing cards together. It is too hard to teach him some games at the moment but we do play a similar version to 'snap' before I decide to show him a couple of magic tricks with the cards. He is impressed but I refuse to show him how I do it :p horrible aren't I!
I am very happy here at the country house - it feels a little cooler than the city and I am able to relax. I have been blessed and I am excited for the days to come...I have caught the sun toor which feels good and my skin is feeling so much better already. No makeup, no products, no clothes pretty much (lol) and no stress; I could get used to this!... :)
