Wednesday;; Day 23. Good morning in Spain...well, kind of! I didn't wake up until 11am and the children don't wake up until 11.30am lol! It's just so hot! Apparently the kids sleep until about this time every day throughout the holidays though and go to bed about midnight!
Today is my first day with the kids with both parents at work. They greet me when they wake up saying 'good morning' and Jaime asks if I slept well. Their English is pretty good really, especially Jaime. Alejandra and Alvero, who will be arriving next week, are apparently very good with their English too. After breakfast, we walk to their Grandma's house so I can get some Internet (mines not been working) and also so that we can play in the courtyard (there is nowhere secure to play outside at the apartment.) It's so hot outside already but thanks to the Australian summers, I'm used to it...I think! It's a different kind of heat though, which is what everyone says, but it's true. It's not as dry here, even though most of the country is desert. It doesn't dry your skin like the Aussie sun and it doesn't burn you the same, you just kinda go, brown :)
At Grandma's, I use the Internet before Patricia and I head downstairs to the courtyard while Jaime watches TV. The cool thing here at the moment is apparently these 'wave' boards. I think I've seen them before but never tried to use one! Patricia says she is going to teach me!!! Well, it was a laugh that's for sure. It's like a skate board but you don't use one foot to push you forward, you simple move your back leg in a wave motion quickly making the board wave forwards. I can't explain it. But it seemed impossible at first and of course, we had the company of two spanish cleaners having their 'lunch break' and watching us smiling and encouraging me...After a while, I was able to stay on the board for more than 4 seconds lol but the sweat was dripping off me! I did make progress though and Patricia seemed very excited! We would practice more tomorrow, but for now, I was to walk them back to make their lunch and do their homework with them before their Mum and Dad would be home. Eva (Mum) has booked in for me to get my legs waxed! Fortunately, they are blonde but still, in the sunshine, they would give off a brilliant reflection and that's not really what we want. Jaime walks me to the salon which is called Le Bron, before he asks 'do you know how to get home?' (I think so), and he walks back home. It's a bit strange walking into a place full of spanish women and you simply just stand out due to your blonde hair, height and lack of spanish vocabulary.
Before long, I am led off by a lovely girl named Sandra. She could speak the tiniest bit of English and we had quite a laugh trying to communicate. She did a brilliant job though on my legs and it didn't hurt as much as it does at home! I tell her in spanish that I'll be coming back again! Oh she also informed me that she has always loved the name Chloe and is calling her future daughter that :)
Back at home, we pack as we plan to head to the country house tonight, but, not everything goes to plan, as usual! We head to Corte de Ingles which is a big department store, as we need to get Internet for my phone. We tried last night but Vodadone was too expensive and it was getting late. Well, we end up spending 3 hours in the electronics area waiting for the lady at Orange to serve us; there's a customer with her that seems to have been with her forever. There is me, Eva, Patricia, and Eva's 3 year old niece, Julia (pronounced Hulia) all standing around trying to wait patiently! We were all getting so tired and hungry but Eva persisted that we stay and wait as there would be no other time to do it. Kiki (the husband) had been looking everywhere for those portable wifi things you plug into your phone but apparently everywhere has sold out due to families all going away with them for the summer holidays. But, anyway, we finally get me a spanish SIM with 2G of Internet so I can keep in contact with home and manage any business that comes through with my clients (makeup). It's so expensive here compared to England but that's just the way it is here, as with a lot of things...except for food :p the food is cheap and incredible. So fresh, so juicy, and full of flavour. I swear the tomatoes taste like a dessert! Anyway...
So it's 9.30pm and the Holland-Argentina game is at 10pm and the boys want to watch it so we decide we will leave for the country tomorrow instead. I make dinner (salmon with asparagus, tomatoes, garlic and lemon) at 11.30pm for everyone lol and they love it! They say they've never tried a meal with these ingredients together and never had tomatoes the way I do them! Jaime raves about them and I must agree, it was pretty good. I'm glad they like my cooking.
We watch the match, eat Icecream to stay cool, and relax before heading to bed. I am excited about going to the country house but also a little apprehensive as apparently there is nothing there except houses. Just one petrol station, a small deli and ...well, that's it! But it will be a good change to the busy-ness of London! :) mwah, buenas noches
