Saturday;; Day 26. So my nannying job will usually be Monday - Friday with the weekends mostly off. However, due to the situation with the family member, I offer to take care of the children again for today. The parents won't be home until late tonight either.
The day unfolds much the same as yesterday, with breakfast and the pool. I think I'm in love with the pool. We play, we swim, and I sunbathe! With sunscreen though, of course! I can tell today though that Patricia is missing her parents and so I try to keep her as motivated and busy as I can. The boys play football, the girls play games am run around, it's a lovely atmosphere, and I'm started to understand a little more Spanish thanks to the families around me.
Lunch time comes and I am requested by Patricia and Jaime to make the same as yesterday - something they'd never had before; nothing fancy but according to them it's fantastic! - 2 fried eggs with the yolk still runny with toasted baguette-style bread and butter, (you dunk the bread into the runny egg yolk) and then some ham and ensalada (salad) on the side! Lol pretty simple hey but it obviously works!
Throughout the rest of the afternoon, Patricia and Jaime play with their friends until Eva and Kiki arrive home, much to their delight! It is so nice seeing them greet their parents so excitedly (is that even a word?) whenever they come home! Eva and Kiki come in the pool with us and I'm happy because now they get to relax for the weekend. In the evening, we all head up to the cafe area above the pool and sit with all their spanish friends. The kids are playing football or playing in the park, or running around eating chips, and the parents are all in groups together catching up and having a drink. It is a lovely atmosphere but quite strange to sit amongst people where there is so much talking but you are not be able to understand 98% of what is being said! Eva introduces me to one of her friends though who has been taking English lessons in Singapore (where they moved to a year ago). We have a conversation in English, to which she understands mostly, and then we try and talk in Spanish - not so successful lol! She teaches me some new words and try's to teach me how to roll my 'l's. I've only just mastered how to roll my 'r's and now my 'l's, really!? It is impossible I swear! She is trying to show me with her mouth but I just can't copy! We are trying to say 'Malta' as this is one of Patricia's friends names. You have to roll the 'l'...well maybe you will have better luck than me but no matter how many times I try, my tongue gets stuck!!!
Anyway, her children apparently speak almost fluent English and have been studying at an International school in Singapore. I also get the chance to speak with Kiki properly and we talk about Australia and football etc all in English. Thank goodness!
Back at home, Eva prepares us her home-made lasagne which is lighter than a typical lasagne and is with tuna instead of mince meat! I love it! The family prepare every meal from scratch, even the sauces. They get all their tomatoes and capsicums etc from their veggie patch and they eat so healthily, I am in heaven! Nothing is from a bottle or a can, and the only meal that seems westernised is breakfast. I love this way of cooking.
Well, I'm officially 'off' now until Monday so tomorrow I am going to completely relax - even more than usual lol. No needing to hassle the kids about their homework and getting them back to the house for lunch. No needing to manage their squabbling (fighting) and it will be good for them to spend some time with their parents. Buenas noches amigos!
