Woke up this morning to see the beautiful plains and Mount Robinson - all part of the incredible Karijini National Park. We left early and stopped at the nearby Juna Downs, Albert Tognolini rest area, where we had planned to spend last night, but couldn't make it there as the low sun yesterday evening made it impossible to drive any further.
We parked and walked to the cliff edge and were rewarded with an impressive view of the gorge with deep red cliffs and the mountains in the distance. At the bottom of the gorge the highway passed through and we could see what looked like miniature road trains passing through.
We continued on and were now passing along the edge of the Karijini National Park and we were blown away with the view of the mountain range with the red cliffs contrasting the stark yellow and red plains. We needed more time to take in this stunning area before heading to the coast. We stopped for fuel late morning at the Auski road house in Munjina, which also doubles as a general store, cafe, restaurant, mine worker accommodation and caravan park. With reasonable prices for a powered site we decided to stay so Gadi could go into the national park this afternoon - and I can stay here in comfort with Cadbury with the aircon on (boiling hot outside at around 34 degrees) inside our little home on wheels. I don't mind, as with my Achilles problems I am limited with walking. And besides, I was looking forward to a quiet afternoon on my own. I had some baking and washing planned, as well as catching up on a TV series we are both watching.
I had a lovely afternoon and baked a chocolate coconut cake and spent the time relaxing and enjoying the time out.
Gadi came back glowing from his trip into Karijini and said it was the highlight of the trip to date. He loved the walks and the incredible fern pool. He walked in the beautiful Dale Gorge with its huge granite rocks, between Fortescue Falls and Circular Pool and returned the same way because he really liked the gorge. He said it looked similar to, and reminded him of, Mount Sinai from many years ago. He enjoyed a swim at both pools and met a backpacker there who said she'd been everywhere in Australia and said that Karijini National Park was better than anywhere else in the outback, including the gorges in the Kimberley.
He got back in time for us to BBQ dinner on the weber and relax for the evening, looking at our photos and information about the park. We decided to stay another day after Gadi spoke to our neighbours about another great place to visit in the national park. Fine by me. I could do with another day to relax, watch more of the series and just have some quiet time out on my own. With this settled, and it already being late, it's now time to hop into bed in our sweet little home on wheels.
Good night, sweet dreams xx
