Friday I slept till 12! It was glorious. We bummed around until we decided to get dressed and get coffee. I may have done some work, but it’s unlikely. Finally at 4 we went to the Halloween store. Kelley, katy, and I ran home in the rain at 6 to put ours together. I took the red t-shirt Christina had given me, cut the sleeves and neck a bit, and turned it inside out. I then took ditalini, little pasta and hot glued it in circles on the shirt. I glued it to a pair of earrings and a headband. I also strung it on a necklace and bracelet. Yes, I was pasta with red sauce! We, all 6 of us, met Valentino and his girlfriend, Nathan, Pietro, and Zaf at Eden for dinner. Valentino had planned out the menu, we just had to show up. We had pasta, pork chops, and sausage, and endless glasses of wine. We went to Merlins and got home late.
Saturday I again slept until late. I started my paper, and spent the majority of the day in my sweatpants. Around 3 katy, Kelley and I got coffee at Lavazza. Lavazza is a chain coffee place, so it’s regular espresso and cappuccino are sub-par, but they have specialty drinks. And I found my ideal drink. Its called…eh I can’t remember what it’s called, but I’ll find out for you. But it’s a hot chocolate with a shot of espresso and a little bit of cream. Perfect. Then we walked around the little specialty market they had and got spiced hot wine to split among the roomies. We may also have gotten chocolate from sweet sweet way, the cioccolatino near us (but they aren’t very nice there). We were all so cozy that we just snuggled up on the couch and watched Wedding Crashers. We all showered and treated ourselves out to a nice dinner at Ristorante del Sole. I got the boar with onions and apples and chocolate crepes filled with whipped cream. It was a nice night out with the girls at a good restaurant with an amazing night view of Perugia.
Sunday I woke up late again and bummed around the house and wrote my paper, while eating everything I had in the apartment. I think I went for coffee twice just to get out of the house.
Monday, yay class. I went to the Coop for some cibo (that’s food), made lunch, and flew to photo class. I handed in my 6 page paper and gave a presentation on Bert Stern, the man who photographed Marilyn Monroe’s last sitting, and he did some advertisements too. I was very glad to have that over and done with, seeing as I have many other papers due soon. I got out of class at 5. I relaxed a bit, did some homework, made some dinner and took a nap. Kelley woke me up at 11pm so that we could go to coyote ugly night, of which alex and sara were a part of. Little did we know it didn’t start until 12. So we checked out karaoke at Rock Castle, and decided to go to Shamrocks instead. At 12 we went to Merlin to see everybody, and went home shortly after because we were tired.
Tuesday during my 5 hour break (gotta love those!) I went by myself, in the rain, to the train station. I bought me and brooke, my friend studying in Florence, a ticket to Switzerland! I went to customer service and told them I needed one ticket from Perugia to Interlaken on November 20th at night. The man looked up the times and told me the rates and which one to go for. Once I purchased the tickets to Interlaken, I had to go back to him. he was very excited about the rate I got because I was buying them in advance, and he was eager to help me find good tickets home, which he did. Afterwards, I went across the street to the big Coop (the big grocery store) and bought 3 kinds of cheese, marscapone, provolone piccante, and fettine (which is like American cheese), butter, and ice cream. I bet I looked great at the checkout. When I got home, Alex, Sara and I went to Parma for lunch. Parma is a grocery store that has a deli. There we got paninis the size of our heads, no lie, of ciabatta with pesto, turkey, mozzarella, and tomatoes. And a piece of chocolate of course. When I got home and worked on my OTHER paper while eating the massive sandwich. After my other two classes, I came home and Sara and I made macaroni and cheese. We never really follow any recipe…but it comes out good everytime. I added some frozen peas into mine and it reminded me a little bit about my birthday. That night I worked till 1am on my paper because we were up late trying to see who won the election! I had voted nearly 3 weeks prior. But we realized that results wouldn’t be till late in America which meant early morning for us. So we went to bed.
Wednesday I woke up to the sweet voice of Kelley singing “Obama, Obama..” and smiled as I found her in the kitchen dancing near her computer that was opened to CNN. We all went to class happy. During my break I worked solely on my paper due on Thursday for food and culture. It had to be 10 pages long. I know I shouldn’t complain, it was the second paper I had due here, but I still didn’t want to do it. But I pulled through, again eating everything I could find, and going for coffee now and then. I’ve found that my favorite coffee is at Bar Duomo, just a minute away from us. And the old man there is very nice and remembers what Katy, Kelley and I order. The other place we like we call Blue light special, because it has a blue light outside of it, and that is where we go for pastries, they are the best there. So we have lavazza that is a chain and we rarely go to, bar duomo which is usually 3 times a week, café morlacchi where we like to relax and study, blue light special for pastries, parma for paninis, Quattro passi across the street where we get pizza, eden the old outside bar, shamrock where we get burgers and beers and watch soccer games, rockcastle for karaoke, merlins which is our bar, and domus the discotech. I think that’s all of them for now. And sweet sweet way where we buy chocolate. I could go on clearly, but I’ll stop for now. At night, Carson’s parents took us out to Ristorante del Sole again. This time I got the grilled boar and something they considered cake…which wasn’t cake but was still good, and a necessary espresso. That espresso kept me up so I could finish the paper, which I did.
Thursday, today, I edited my paper during my break and went for coffee with Alex and Kelley. At 3:30 I passed that paper in, and sat through 2 classes. I have just recently made myself dinner, chicken with pepper and onions cooked in oil, butter, and white wine. Be impressed, but don’t expect me to cook for you when I return :P. Kelley and Katy have gone to Florence to meet Kelley’s friend’s parents and Carson is with her parents. So Sara, Alex and I are going to put our sweatpants on and watch the holiday…and I plan on attacking the tartufo gelato I bought the other day (that’s chocolate and hazelnut…we think).
Tomorrow we have to leave here by 6 to catch a train to Pisa. From there, we are flying to Sicily! Wish me luck as I return to the motherland! I am sadly having to report that I will not be going to the specific towns that my relatives came from, I will have to save that for another trip in a few years. But I think going to Palermo is just as good.
Until then, Angela
